I think the full length is mostly more popular because of the extra real estate for other things in addition to a tent (boxes, track mounts, etc) or a really large hardshell tent.
Or aesthetics...I have a buddy that said the 3/4 racks look like a receding hairline :ROFLMAO:, whereas I like the look because I think it looks more stock/simple. I've been torn on which to get myself so am curious other's thoughts!
3/4 makes sense if you have a moonroof.

That looks like your first notable modification. But yours would never work in my garage, it would foul with the garage door operating system. I need some sort of a low profile rack. But so many of them look agricultural and sort of homemade (not yours).
I also have a silver 4Runner. I like the color, it would not have been my first choice, but I got almost $4K knocked off the sticker price.
Yeah, it’s a tad tall.

With the raised factory rails I think the Rago Fabrication option is by far the slimmest.

Re:Color
Funny enough I had to hunt for silver. I wanted the lowest maintenance color possible. Finding one with a 3rd row and 4x4 in silver was a bear.

I have to say that the silver looks great in the sunshine. Thats when the metallic in the paint really pops. The day that I bought the rig I gave it the ceramic treatment using Adams products.

The full length roof racks remind me of an aircraft carrier and look silly to me. If it was just about looks I'd go 3/4 but I'm also concerned about blocking my sun roof and wind noise with the full length. My ORP came with factory cross rails which were wicked noisy and removing them cured the problem.

So now I ask, which 3/4 roof rack has the least amount of wind noise?

I've always admired the looks of the Gen 5 with the 3/4 basket type roof rack. That item alone seemed to take the 4Runner out of the SUV category and into the off-road world. I wish that they made one for my Gen 6.

While I'm at it, any feedback on the factory 3/4 roof rack? Yea, I know, it's expensive, but so isn't my 4Runner itself.
I’m liking the factory 3/4 rack. The ARB accessories and hardware pieces are pricey though. That said they do the job. I need to get a propane tank holder and Jerry can or Rotopax holder as well. Those will be $$. Wind noise is minimal and I think it looks great (I also have the Cutting Edge silver color).

i think ARB is the way to go. I was nervous to install it… but it’s the OE option and unlikely you will find anything that is quieter or fits better.

I’ve spent the day trying to sort the vibration/noise on my setup… I about done trying. At least it comes off easily.

I can buy the ARB rack from a sort of nearby Toyota dealer that discounts parts and accessories. It's listed as an accessory for my Off Road Premium and selling for $364 off list. To get the discount I have to order online and pick it up at the dealership.
But what is the deal with the missing cross piece? I've read that there is a missing cross piece at the rear of the rack and that there are open screw holes to mount it. Is this "missing" cross piece necessary?
