Considering Trading my ORP for a LC250 - Talk me out of it.

Today is the one year anniversary of delivery of my 2025 ORP. Overall I really like the vehicle but I have a few things that bug me and a few things I like more about the Land Cruiser. I know this topic has been debated online a million times, but this feels like a fun one to get the community's input on.

Cons of 4R:

• MPG - currently getting 17 while driving very conservatively
• Seats don't lay flat
• Hard plastics everywhere

Reasons I like the LC250 more than my ORP

• It just looks 200% better. It's a more mature rugged design IMO. 6G4R is a little more in the vein of the Wrangler and Bronco aesthetically. (this is the main reason tbh)
• Hybrid seems like an upgrade on power and minor MPG improvement
• Interior seems more spacious feeling
• AWD
• Locking center diff
• Disconnecting sway bars

Cons of LC250:

• requires premium
• expensive
• tiny gas tank (17 gal)
• Weaker CV joints apparently

Your call of course. You can do whatever you want. I personally like the look of the 4Runner better but they are both nice looking vehicles. I have a TRD Pro so it's a hybrid already. Don't expect the hybrid to get better MPG since the 4R seems to get the same MPG hybrid or non-hybrid and the LC is also the same. Note you already have a locking center differential with your ORP so that's not an advantage (if you put it in 4Hi, the center diff is locked). But you do get full time 4WD with the LC which some people really value.

For me, just paying for premium fuel for no better performance is a huge negative. That's over $1000 a year for essentially nothing in my case. The other negative is the low ground clearance at 8.7inches and poor factory tires on the LC.

In the end it's a personal decision so there isn't a right or wrong answer but it'll cost you a lot to change a vehicle after 1 year so it would make sense to be sure (this time) it's the vehicle you want.

Since it seems based on looks mainly as well as a more premium feel and space, you should consider the Lexus GX 550 Overtrail as well. They look really nice (but 15-16 mpg + premium killed it as an option for me). Good luck in your decision.

It's all about money. I priced the LC how I wanted it and it was 70k (which was fine) however there wasn't one in 500+ miles that was less than $74k because of the add-ons that I didn't want. Add that to the premium gas (for no performance gains) and I said forget it, not worth 10K more to me plus the added expense of premium. I was paying cash so saying "no" is easier when its real number coming out of your account and not a loan. Went with Limited Hybrid and use leftover money to pimp out my ride as my wife says. While I may lose some cool points for not having the LC, totally happy with my limited hybrid and have had the money to make it mine. And even if I had gotten the LC, my neighbor a few house down just got a GX 550 so I would have been jealous of that lol.

My two cents as someone who had an LC 250 premium pack for 16 months before it was stolen and now into a 4R platinum. All personal opinion and no right or wrong answer as you know.
LC Cons
- premium gas
- heavier and drives much more sluggish than the same powertrain in the 4R
- price
- no heated rear seats
- more headroom but less shoulder and hip room
- windshield rock chips
- wind noise

LC pros
- looks as you said
- interior is nicer but matter of opinion - all the same functions
- off road items standard but I used it once I believe.

Fuel thing is always funny to use as a con. Premium should be run in both. Running 87 in the LC is no different than in the 4runner.

Showing my wife this comment lmao. The 6g is hers but I have a 5th gen. She said earlier “we can’t have a 4r AND a LC. I beg to differ. LC keep it stock and city oriented, keep my 6th gen on ATs with lift etc as my daily. I think the LC will be a perfect family hauler. She’s also 5’2” so lifting a kid into the back of the 4r is a little high for her

I respectfully disagree. The 4R is setup for 87. Yes, will adjust higher. The LC is setup for 91. Running the LC on lower is not recommended unless a one off until you get premium.

I know this opens up a big can and its been discussed in many other threads.

As for the OP, comments. I completely agree on the 4R cons except I get a consistent 22.5-23.5 and that is not open road freeway driving. Its around town, in the suburbs, etc.

On the LC, I love the looks. Its a shame they moved the flagship name to a “lesser” product which elevates the Sequoia to flagship model.

If I wanted to spend more, I would also consider the GX550.

lol yeah that’s better in the scenario where I trade the 6g for the LC. If I can have both, the off-road bits obv have less of a value add. LC would def be the ski trip car tho so would absolutely see some 4x4 scenarios either way.

LC will def have more road manners than the ORP though. The bilstein shocks are a little rough for city daily use. LC a bit more comfy

IMO they're effectively the same vehicle by any meaningful metric, so trading one in for the other is basically equivalent to trading one in for another trim of the same.

Sure, there are what I would consider minute differences, like that you can't equip a 4R with FT4WD AND a locking rear diff at the same time (though you can get FT4WD OR a locking rear diff). And then there's the sheet metal.

No one can or should make the decision for you -- if you value how the LC looks over the 4R enough to make it worth the loss on the trade-in and the extra $ for an LC with the same amenities as the 4R, do it! But, I think it's 90% a cosmetic decision, because under the sheet metal it's... literally the same.

You can disagree all you want. The engines are the same and also tuned EXACTLY the same.
