Code P0015 Camshaft Position Timing is over-retarded on Bank 1 - 2025 Toyota 4Runner SR5

Hello,
The vehicle has 7,000 miles and is showing code P0015 – Camshaft Position Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1) on a 2025 Toyota 4Runner SR5.
The Toyota dealer performed full diagnostics but was unable to identify the issue or replicate the fault. The problem has occurred four times over approximately 1,200 miles.
When it happens, the vehicle goes into limp mode, triggers the check engine light, and disables all safety sensors. Resetting the system by disconnecting the battery temporarily resolves the issue, but the last occurrence returned after approximately 120 miles.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? Any suggestions or guidance?

4 times at 7,000 miles?
unacceptable, I’d tell Toyota to fix it and I’d have a loaner until it’s fixed properly.
Clearing codes does absolutely nothing to mitigate problems accept getting you out of their hair.

The variable camshaft timing (VCT) oil control valve (OCV) is stuck in the open position.

The camshaft phaser is stuck in the retarded position due to damage or clogged oil passages.

Oil flow problems to the VCT piston and phaser from incorrect oil viscosity.

The OCV has an open circuit or the ECM has an open circuit.

Yesterday they replaced the oil control valve . It didn't show any mechanical issues but they are thinking the sensor was not working within the correct parameters on the 5v reference after long time driving leading to the code.

They drove it 20 miles no issues, they are driving it a bit longer today to see if it comes back. Hopefully this was the problem and now its resolved! I'll keep you guys posted.

I cringe reading this. I traded in my 2020 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk because of 2 seperate camshaft issues. I hope this won't be an issue on my 2025 ORP as I switched from Jeep to Toyota for the reliability reputation.

I will follow this thread for sure and hope a sensor is all that was wrong. I know with my Jeep the entire vehicle started shaking when I attempted to accelerate quickly on the highway and engine lights would go off as well as losing ability to gain any speed.
