These lights came on my Pro and I ordered a set from Toyota online when they were having the 20% off sale several weeks ago to install in our ORP. Very easy to install once someone posted the install directions. There's also 2 additional LED lights available for the inside of the tailgate . I've seen several 4Runners online with these but haven't been able to find the install directions. Does anyone know how to access installation directions for Toyota accessories on the Toyota site?

Do you have a photo of the light you speak of? I have two lights in my liftgate but I believe they are factory installed, not an accessory add on.

Hey thanks for that bit of information. I did find the part at a Toyota parts and a pretty clear process of installing which is pretty much Plug and Play.

My concern is did you have to recalibrate your windows or your info system for settings after the disconnect of the 12 volt negative.? Thanks in advance

No. Plug and play. Remove the original D Pillar panels and replaced with the new with lights

But I'm guessing you have the iForce Max Hybrid model? I believe those keep the internals powered. But the standard 12 volt system like mine not sure about.

My D-pillar OEM's arrive tomorrow.
I have zero issue or concern to just plug them in w/o worrying
about 12v battery. Nothing bad is gonna happen. For dealership
techs, they need to follow the instructions per Toyota.

I will be leaving the pigtails dangling and connecting them while
inside with doors and hatch closed, so there is no power supplied to the
dome or cargo lights when I do it...[but even this is a bit excessive.]

Hello thanks for this breakdown of the install. Where did you order the lights from? I see them on a few Toyota parts sites but you mentioned that you were able to find a good deal on them. Thanks in advance
Not the OP, but I got mine at Nucar. Even with shipping was less than I could get elsewhere (and much less than MSRP from dealer). First link when I search the part number PT944-89260-C0
Nucar 4runner cargo area lights

I just waited until the lights turned off automagically, like 10 mins or so

Installed. WOW these are very bright and light up the rear fully.

amazing must have item

NOTE: to take off cargo hooks, just twist 90deg, they pop out
and there is a 10mm bolt in each hole to remove

be prepared for yellow trim clips to remain stuck
so get ready with a long handled trim puller or needle
nose to reach in and pop them out. the new ones come
fully clipped, so busting the OEM clips is no big deal

yup, the 4runner is prewired for these, just find the empty
female plugs low on driver side and up high on passenger side

Correct! All super easy and no fear of breaking the existing clips. Just make sure you have all of the old clips removed and out of the way.

Just wanted to share with everyone here that on my Pro I did not have the optional (additional) cargo lighting which can be located on the rear pillars. They are very easy to install and I feel like when you are spending this kind of money it is a worth while upgrade.

Here is a link to the instructions from where I purchased online at a discount.

BIG FYI here! I feel so stupid for it but I was so impressed with the improvement that I did not pay attention to a simple detail. If you have a 3rd row, this will not work because of the seatbelts in the panel. I am gonna take a look tomorrow if there is a way to mod the panel to accept the seatbelt other than just putting a slit in it. If not, I will try returning it for full refund since nowhere on the site did it mention anything about not working with the 3rd row (even if it is obvious). Should I not be able to return it for complete refund, I will offer it up for sale at the price I got it for: $225 total. So bummed

This looks promising. There is an insert where the seatbelt exits the panel.

If I can match the cutout, it might turn out better than I thought.

Mine came with these but to me they are pretty disappointing. They are in almost the same positions as the regular lights so it hardly improves anything. It's better, just not all that much.

In my 3rd gen I ran a couple led strips along the top edge of the windows. *that* was excellent cargo illumination. Since they are 2 long strips it makes light from multiple directions all around so your own body does create an annoying shadow right on whatever you're trying to work on.

I replaced the original single incandescent dome light with a much brighter led, and wired the new strips through some banana plugs to the led itself which then just snaps into the original fixture, so all 3 lights just run off the original dome light socket without having to touch the trucks wiring.

And since it was a decrepit old 3rd gen instead of a wonderful new advanced... it actually had an amazing genius invention that we have lost the knowledge of the ancients over the countless generations... a light switch, right at the back door, that overrides the automatic and turns the lights either off, or on, even if the truck doesn't understand why you might want the lights OFF with the gate open, or why you might want the lights ON even after a few minutes, you can just have whatever you want anway. Just imagine such utility in a utility vehicle.

Does anyone know how many color options the interior plastic comes in? I am only seeing black but ours is more of a dark gray.
