I can tell a difference since adding all the skids, all the under armor, molle panels, full roof rack, lights, plus equipment.

I thought they were a bit squishy when I bought and made a post before about it. Haven't looked into any upgrade yet.

Regarding brake squeal, in my experience, it stems from slower stop and go driving which builds up lots of brake dust that never gets burned off properly. Just as you have matt your fly by wire throttle after stop and go driving to reset the throttle to be unadjusted to the timid nature of that driving, the dust squeal can be quickly fixed by finding a good 2-3 mile stretch of open road so you can get car up to 80 and brake as hard as you can while staying out of ABS. Drive for 30 seconds at 60mph and repeat the process. Immediately drive for 5 minutes or more at 60+mph around 60mph and repeat process.

you should have no squeal until you get back into the stop and go driving

Hmm... what your describing seems a bit different than the well documented experience of folks on this forum (and the related TSC). The squeal predominantly happens in reverse when cold (e.g., in the morning after sitting overnight) - and tends to be more likely in humid environments. Not discounting your experience, but the well known issue does not seem to be dust related based on the many stories here.

This is my first 4Runner and I have no complaints except I think the brakes are a bit squishy. I know that’s a fairly technical term, but I seem to have to push harder on these brakes than just about any other car I’ve ever owned. My Tahoe weighed more but stopped much easier.

I’ll get used to them but they seem to be less than expected. Maybe it’s partially due to the regen braking system, IDK.

I had mentioned this a few months back about the brakes while towing needing a bit more bite. I tow a race car pretty often and a loaded trunk with parts and fuel. Ive been considering a towing or sport pad and steel braided lines as a first upgrade as these wear a bit more.

It’s literally a brick on wheels. I think it’s in your head.

4Runners have the aerodynamics of an Indy car compared to a Jeep Wrangler. Maybe that’s why my Jeep Wrangler stopped so quickly…Wind resistance. The 4 Runner just keeps on going because it is so sleek.

Seems like she’s equating aerodynamic CF with breaking distance, without regard to MPH, Pitch, Weight, and perhaps most importantly the rolling mass of the wheel/ tire combination. There’s a HUGE difference between slowing a 31” OEM tire and rim vs a tall heavy 37X12.50 KM03 BFG All Terrain Off Road. Nor any consideration of a tailwind or headwind or worse, the draft behind a high profile 18 wheeler

Not understanding your comparison, what does the shape have to do with braking because I can tell you, these have less than desirable brakes.

I have found no issues with my brakes stopping power. I’ve had it for a year next month. I’ve found a lot of people like to complain about things to complain. (In general)

Many people enjoy complaining but once you get used to the safety, and certainty of what I’ll just characterize as Porsche Brakes, you realize how much safer you are, and how late you can brake, which is a huge advantage, especially in the snow and mud, where in many instances, avoiding the brakes completely allows for sustained momentum that can keep you underway and prevent getting stuck. Similar to the sand, but that tends to be more about proper air pressure reduction.
I’ve seen too many people stuck in the mud or snow because they have lifted or even braked for a turn, when had they stayed in the throttle, confident that they could brake at the last second if needed, they would have negotiated the turn and avoided getting stuck

I also have mine for a year, have close to 50 yrs. driving experience including heavy equipment and have built custom extreme rock crawlers including the one below and I can tell you, these brakes are not ideal.

I also have found some people like to post without ever adding any content. (In General)

Not sure on your towing numbers but towing a race car and other equipment seems like it would be too much for the 4Runner and keeping it within safe boundaries for handling and braking.

Race cars are generally light. I could tow my 2500 lb UTV with the 4runner easily, but I use my tundra because it is easier.
