Bad CV axle angle

Like stated, do a diff drop. It’s not a hard install, along with not being overly expensive.

So, on the Toyota factory lift, different axels are being used? Of so (though I’m sure I can look this up) what is different?

New shocks and springs, new axles, new upper control arms, new tie rods, some other things.

I tried looking up the CV axles for an ORP vs a Trailhunter, but didn't have much luck. Are they the same length, but both longer than the SR5/Sport? Or the same length and just the TH and Pro are longer (and the TRD kit axles).


What's with the diff drop hate? I mean, sure...It's a bandaid. But a good one that I've never heard of a failure associated with. I ran one on my Tundra for at least 150k miles and it never had an issue.

The whole point of a diff drop is to transfer some of the extreme CV axle angle to the drive shaft going from the transfer case to the diff. The down side is you lose a bit of clearance that you gained by doing the lift in the front. But normally the pumpkin on the rear axle is lower so it's not a big deal.

My first diff drop was on an 88 Toyota when they first came out with their V6. I was running 35" super swampers with 5.29 gears. Back then things were more crude. The front springs were torsion bars so the lift kits were mainly either spacer blocks or new spindles. The stock tires were smaller so to run 35s you needed a real lift. The slip joint on the front driveshaft on the first IFS trucks were prone to rusting making dropping the front diff harder. I bet I put 100,000 miles on that truck without an issue.

The low point on my front end is the skid plate (Rival) and there was adequate clearance above it to accommodate the diff drop, so no change in ground clearance.

I had the kit installed on my TRD ORP. So this does not explicitly answer the question but adds some facts taht might help. And here are the part numbers that appear on page 2 of the TRD Lift Kit installation guide:

• SHAFT ASSY, FR DRIVE, RH 43410-AK020
• SHAFT ASSY, FR DRIVE, LH 43420-AK020

TRD ORP Stock Axle is ~27.75"
TRD Lift Kit Axle is ~ 30"
It might be a bit larger diameter but I'm not certain.

Will also note that the tie rod ends that come with the kit are also longer than stock by a bit. (maybe half inch?)

Yeah, that's great info!

Now we just need somebody with a Trailhunter to yoink one out and measure it. Or get a parts guy to pull up Toyota's part numbers for them and see if they're the same for either of them. I keep getting Tacoma results with your part numbers. I'm blaming AI for that though lol

Yea - AI screw-up for sure. I'm looking at the PDF that reads 4RUNNER/HV 2025- TRD LIFT KIT on the top and Part Number: PTCCY-89310/89320 on the second line. Was posted here:
