Since October, the rear, motorized hatch opens by itself. It’s happened 4 times. After the second time, I turned off the under bumper kick feature. Still happened 2 more times. I also stopped carrying the fob when I’m home in case the hatch button on it gets pushed accidentally by my house key. That hasn’t stopped the problem either, the fob had been untouched for several hours when it happened again. Anyone have thoughts about what the cause could be?

It happens when it’s parked and locked, day or night. It is parked outdoors, no garage. At first I thought it might be critters passing under the rear bumper, so I turned that function off.

it’s very random, 4 times since October.

The kick sensor function only works with the FOB in your pocket.

That's weird and sux, I'd take it to the dealer before someone passing by takes advantage of that situation.

Unless the dealership has seen this before which I doubt or it would have shown up on one of the 4R sites your gonna have fun trying to figure that one out. I'd expect multiple return trips....

Good Luck and let us know....

if you are carrying your fob around, it has to be butt-dialing the fob

if you are setting all fobs down, lock them both out [sleep mode]
and keep them locked out

HOLD lock button on fob
while holding LOCK, press unlock twice and then let go of all buttons
FOB led should blink 4 times...blink blink - pause - blink blink

now your FOB radio is turned completely off* and cannot be detected by
the 4runner *FOB still has flea power [enough power to detect a new button press]

see if that changes anything
