With all these bike racks, maybe Toyota will make us a bike rack mode.

For every day bike use, these new Toyotas are a big let down from a user experience perspective. I’m learning to accept it.

After 1000 miles with bikes on, I’ve continued to use the auto detect trailer mode to keep front sensors working (with rear disabled). Works great until it doesn’t— it will randomly ask if I removed the “trailer” even when bikes are loaded and it’s obviously on. Clean, dirty… no rhyme or reason. It would be helpful if they offered control to choose that mode and let it stick without auto detect failing more often than not.

If you don’t use the auto trailer mode— you’ll still get frequent prompts asking if one is attached. Requires manual action to clear it off screen. Can’t turn off auto detection without it resetting to ON each ignition cycle.

Here’s my setup. Yakima Stage 2 rack. I have a 2 bike add-on as well. I’ve also setup supplemental taillights and turn signals (found a good tutorial on YT).

When you’re wired into the tow harness, does it eliminate the auto trailer detection?

I just installed my 1up Equip'D and the hitch lock appears to be too short to allow the lock to turn. I am having to use the wheel lock I also got for now and reached out to customer service. Anyone else with this issue?

Are you saying the hitch is wider than standard, not allowing the weird and not very secure 1UP locks to work?

Picture 3 seems to look like it works.

I have never liked the 1up lock. Rack is good. Always been tempted to drill through the hitch and 1up for a real lock.

I had the same issue. My solution was using one of the longer ones I had for the bikes. With a few washers, works great. Now I’m short on a lock for the bikes, but I’ll get that sorted later.

I have an SR5, so no trailer detection. Kind of glad given all the comments about the challenges therein.
Check that. It did detect a ‘trailer’ this morning on startup. With the rack in the vertical stowed position I assume the camera triggered it.

Glad to know I am not the only one. Hopefully their customer service will just send me another wheel lock if they don't have a slightly longer one designed for this type of receiver

Correct. The lock they sent is probably ~1/2" too short to work. I can get the lock on the rod.. but not far enough to allow the key to actually lock the rod down. That 3rd picture was using the accessory wheel lock I purchased which I am now using as a temporary solution

I have the longer locks designed for securing bike to frame I wonder if 1up will do a slightly longer for the Toyota. Seems like a hitch would be a standard size snd if so, Toyota went non-standard.

Alright, confirmed with 1UP that what they sent will not work. Their only solution was for me to buy a replacement pin after trying to get them to just send one as they did not clearly outline this potential issue before I purchased. The email agent didn't help at all so I called and that person at least gave me a free ship code.

What you will need is SKU 260027 Wheel Lock (QR/HD) that has a usable length of 3.9". What they ship only has a usable length of 3" which is about 0.5" too short for this 4Runner

Great info. I found when purchasing accessories, they were far from helpful. I am checking my lock now but I beleive I am in the same situation.

I also have all my locks using the same key. I bet they will not do that on the nee lock.

Take note of the number on your matching key set. Ask if they can give you more with that same lock number. I believe they’re 1-25.

Looks like I am buying just the rod end of the lock which should use the same lock I have now.

i ordered it and should receive it Friday.

I want to test fit the rack, bikes, tilting, etc. its been a while since I mounted it. Hopefully I will have access to the cargo area without an extended hitch or swing out.
