6th Gen Owners: What's one thing you'd change about the Truck?

Along with a handful of things already mentioned, I’ve felt like the air conditioner is lack luster since I bought the car.

I guess it does a decent job bringing the overall temperature down and the air at the vent is cold but I have to have it full blast to feel it blowing on my face. Personally think it’s due to how massive the vents are, they probably move the same amount of air but not forcefully.

Our Subaru feels like it’ll blow my hat off at 3/4 power so perhaps just what we were used to.

My Tundra was like this...I pulled the cabin air filter and it probably blew 30% harder LOL

4Runner's AC is good for me so far. It's been triple digits here and it keeps up fine. Probably not quite as humid as Hotlanta though.

Oh interesting! I’ll have to test and see if it’s the same without the filter (or find a high flow filter somehow)

Truth but I’m about to move to Colorado so mountain weather should help!

I lived in Denver a couple of decades ago, and I was just in Colorado last week. Did some mountain passes/trails.

Colorado isn't a real place. It's some absurd beautiful landscape painting you get caught in.

Just picked up my Trailhunter. Nothing unexpected or exciting. Shifts fine, had to bed the brakes to get good feel out of them, Intake noise is not an issue at all, Android Auto is working perfectly, wireless charging is charging at 300+ mA, opted out of connected services and there is a grey slashed satellite icon on the home screen so thst works for me for now. AC works great and blows hard, almost too cold and too hard; had to take manual control, set it at 76F and lowest blower setting. So far everything I learned during my test drives is holding true.

The other things I dislike, of course, still bother me, but so far the common drivability dislikes don't seem an issue.

I have a black lab and a golden and there isn’t enough space to jump in and they will jump up to the seat. It’s also too far for them to jump out, they could over time hurt themselves.

Not enough space to jump in? I am not sure what you mean by that. I have Leonbergers which are much larger and they ride fine. The jump in and out is quite high as you say, sovI highly recommend the Twistep or another step system. I find steps much better than ramps once the dog gets used to it--they seem to accept it quicker and less apt to slip (no matter how rough a ramp is it is still not a good enough grip).

For those mentioning a/c: I almost always use auto and just set the temperature. It seems to work quite well. It will, however, blow "less cold" air when it reaches the set temperature, so make sure you take that into consideration. If you really just want frigid air either use manual or set the temp really low. I have found, though, that just setting my desired temp works very well. I adjust it up or down a bit depending on what I feel like. Also in the morning, or when cool, if you do not use a/c make sure you set the temp low enough so it will not heat the air if you do not want it to do that!

Also, if you have it, the cooling seat ventilation is really nice, if not rather subtle (I which it could be stronger).

This will never happen, but I really wish they'd figured out a different placement for the battery for the hybrid. Would have liked the extra torque (I like to pass slow people on the highway) and slightly better gas mileage. As it is, the extra cargo height was a deal breaker as I have two aging Collies.

I have 4 70lb dogs, including one with hip dysplasia and another that is 10+. They all get in the back easily with the help of a plastic dog hitch step.

Can you tell me more about the dog hitch step. Where'd you get it? We have a fold up ramp that we've never used, but will have to start using soon, regardless of whether I stick with my Audi wagon, my wife's Crown Signia, or a new 4Runner.

I got it used locally for half price. There are generic versions on Amazon as well (can't comment on their quality). The Otto Step quality is fantastic though and sturdy. I just throw it in the rear passenger seat when done with it. Considering how much I spend on dog related accessories for my FurRunner, I went with the brand name quality.

My boxers can hop up on the step and then in to the hybrid back no problem (My weims are like kangaroos and don't need it).

It seems like you can either choose unlocking ALL doors or ONLY the driver's door with the buttons on the key fob or using the Smart Key function. It should be one press for driver's, second for the rest, OR touch the handle for driver's and hold a bit for the rest.

That is the way it works. I changed mine in settings so that touching the door (or passenger) handle unlocks all doors on first touch, but the default is driver only, hold for all. I rarely use the fob, but I am pretty sure the default is once for driver, then again for all (at least that is what it is for our RAV4 and other vehicles I have driven).

Those are pretty nice. I have a metal version I got years ago for about $20 (yes, it was an excellent deal). The problem with this one, though, is that it keeps the platform at the level of the hitch, which on our 4Runners is pretty high. I purchased the Twistep for this vehicle:

It drops it down a bit and folds out of the way, which is really nice as it effectively takes no space. Yes, if I am off-roading I will likely remove it, as it could easily drag/be damaged on a steep departure angle. Note it does have to be dropped down to its the lowest hole (not difficult) to clear the spare tire, and even then rubs slightly. That also, though, puts it at a better height. It is very strong (rated for 400#) and works very smoothly. I was not thrilled about their support when I contacted them for something (I described that elsewhere in this forum) but the product is excellent.

Also note that their lock does not fit in the 4Runner as the hitch is too wide. You also cannot use normal pins (like the one that comes with the 4Runner) as it uses a bolt to hold it securely (which does have the advantage of holding it solid, no rocking at all). It would probably be possible to make a bolt that could be locked, but not trivial. Still, being a bolt it would not be as easy to steal as one with a simple pin.

They are just really expensive. Plus, although they fold nicely, they still have to be stored. There are cheap versions on Amazon (naturally) but they are not nearly as well made or strong. They (or the one referenced by get.outside.75) are not rated enough for some dogs I have had (I had a couple that were over 200#). That said, for "not giant" dogs they may be adequate.
