6th Gen Owners: What's one thing you'd change about the Truck?

Goodness gracious my kingdom for better remote start and a stronger remote. I came from two Jeeps in a row. Both easily could remote start from a distance 4 times greater than the 4Runner fob. And then you just pressed a remote start button twice. No three button cadence then hold at the end. I’ve a 25% success rate remote starting the 4Runner, it worked every time on my jeep.

The low headroom and low entry is a factor for me. I'm 6-4 200 lbs and if I don't do it just right, it's too small. I don't care for the black ceiling. My other three 4Runners had that "camel" color and looked much better. The black, especially with the terrible led interior lights makes it way too dark. Flat folding seats would have need nice. My dog can't just hop up into the rig anymore. And, I agree with Tarekith, already too many rattles for a vehicle of this price range. My 5th gen was tighter after 186K miles than this is at 6000k

But, I love driving my iForce max Limited hybrid. Pulling our smaller travel trailer is a breeze. Much easier than the 5th gen. SO fun to drive.

lol that was my biggest issue with the tree, that storage arrangement makes the 4runner look down right brillant.

and dont get into a pissing contest with a grand highlander in storage space vs a tree. the tree gets chopped down easily.

The 5th Gen 4Runner has more storage space than the current Sequoia.

I test drove it anyway, and even if I could have gotten past the storage shenanigans, the front seats are trash. I mean they're just awful. It's well below its competitors almost every aspect. Went from IRS to SRA, the storage config, the eyewatering cost...

Seats also weren't the primary reason why I didn't go Tundra, but were up towards the top of the list. Chevy and Ford have cardboard seats now too. My 2013 Tundra had some of the best seats I've ever had in a few decades of driving. So they also knew how to make seats and just...Didn't.

Interesting...I have seen a few complain of rattles and creaking. Coming from a VW GTI I am especially sensitive to that...because they are well known for it. After 8 months and almost 7000 miles my SR5 is quiet as a church mouse...no creaks at all...unless you put sunglasses in the ovehead bin...then you will get noises.

Better interior plastics (stronger/higher grade finish) I'm currently in a Tacoma but have considered trading for a 4R. Actually like the engine (non hyrbid) and most of the new tech but if you look at the door cards or those fender flares wrong they are scratched with no way to remove them.

I know it's supposed to be utilitarian first but would it kill Mr T to put a little more soft touch material/metal inside?

I'll be the contrarian on the rear seats... I'm 6'2" and to lie flat in the rear of my 4th gen I have to remove the rear seat bottoms and put an upside down milk crate (or something similar) to fil lthe space behind the front seat. Yes the floor was flat, but not long enough when the rear seat bottoms were flipped up against the front seat.

At least on the 6th gen with the combination of rear drawers and sleeping extensions I can lie down flat in the back.

Things that I wish I had...

• Proper A pillar handles for both driver and passenger
• Hard button for turning off the center screen at night
• Another hard button for dark panel mode (text) (youtube)

Less lights on the dash makes night driving less tiring for me

9 months in not one scratch on the interior doors. Smudges wipe right off. Fender flares are not bad either. Lady hit me in parking lot and left paint on mine. Paint thinner and a liitl elbow grease took it off. Frankly, the plastics in this Toyota are 10 times better than what was in VW GTI.

They DID figure it out. On the 5th gen.

Then they said "nah...nobody likes fold flat seats" and came up with this idiocy for the 6th gen.

It's not the worst though. The 4Runner is bad, but the Sequoia is agressively awful. Like "how can we make this bad for any perceived use? Can we use cheap flimsy material while we're at it? GREAT! SHIP IT!" Then some executive asshole signed off on the idea.

Those people shouldn't be let near design tools ever again. But some of them probably got promotions. Hell, some of them probably got a bonus and some type of internal award before being moved the 4Runner redesign team.

The 5G seats still require tumbling them forward and leave half the seat sticking up and taking away cargo space. Even if you move the front seats fully forward, you still have those tumbled seats blocking the extra space. They definitely tumble forward better than the 6G, and give a bit more room on the cargo floor, but still not flat. At 6'3" I can't sleep comfortably on the floor of a 5G or 6G. With my old Grand Cherokee, I could lay the rear seats totally flat plus fold the front passenger seat forward, slide it back to remove the gap, and lay out along the full length of the cabin with just a thin mattress pad. It sucked at everything else but it was fantastic for sleeping.

For reference, here's a Honda Trailsport. This is what I'd like to see Toyota figure out: The rear seats fold forward with a single movement, lay level with the cargo floor, and don't leave half the seat sticking up.

Point taken. But I'm not a silly giant like you I'm 5'11" and fit fine in the 5th gen, and the one I sported had the cargo tray, so the seats were damn near flat.

Another thing about the 5th gen is that it had two different second row seats depending on the other options. The ones with the third row didn't have the two piece seats. They had seats like the 6th gen, but they also slid forwards and backwards. So even the shitty seats in the 5th gen were better than the 6th

Oh, and the 40/20/40 seat was f'n CHOICE. What a great setup that was.

I love the vehicle overall. After about 30k in a year and a half, the one thing that constantly bothers me is the rough engagement of the motor kicking in after stops. The tow/haul mode trick is fine as is just keeping it in manual, but I feel they could have done much better.

Comments like this on the transmission have been mentioned elsewhere in this forum, but I have never had any issues with it. Seems very smooth to me.

I have a black lab and a golden and there isn’t enough space to jump in and they will jump up to the seat. It’s also too far for them to jump out, they could over time hurt themselves.
