you're not wrong, and that's where the sequence of events is a bit hazy. Regardless, the customer claims that fuse was indeed blown, and it coincided with the poor running and eventual stalling of the 4runner.

Quick update on this 4Runner:

The owner received his FaF Race high-flow catted downpipe, installed it himself, and found visible damage to the factory catalyst during removal.

After the new downpipe was installed, we reviewed the data and made the final calibration changes for the new hardware.
It is now running and performing correctly again, and he is back to enjoying his 4Runner.

A fuse tap improperly installed could load the tapped fuse with its design load plus the added circuit, therfore causing it open on overload. I personally don't use them but they're merely "acceptable" when used in conjunction with a relay which separates the added accessory load from the tapped fuse design load. In general, I rank them only slightly above quick wire taps.

(I don't actually care what others do to their own rigs. If they want to install raptor lights it makes it easier for me to profile them.)
