Thank you!! I’m not gonna lie, but I just did my 1000 mile oil change and I appreciate the lightweight plastic composite skid covers, easy to unbolt and bolt back up. I’m gonna be dreading oil changes if I get the rival. ???‍♂
There is a cut out for the oil changes on the Rival plates. That's why bought it over the OE Toyota plate.

Oh, thank you for pointing that out I see the filter and I guess that opening in the rear is for the oil it says you have to use a funnel to drain oil. I just hope the dealership won’t get pissed at the skid plates in the way if I take it to them and I can see them totally just take the drain bolt and spilling oil everywhere.

I personally don't plan on taking mine to a dealership for oil changes or much else unless absolutely necessary. I trust the monkeys there less than at private shops not to mention paying ridiculous dealership prices. I also only want Pennzoil Ultra Platinum oil & Car Quest Premium oil filters for my oil changes.

I would also say that if the dealership gets pissed at your skid plate that has an opening for oil changes but a funnel is needed & it is given back to you with a mess then consider not providing the dealership with your patronage.

I usually bring it to the dealer while it’s still in warranty after that I take it to a private shop. I still gotta find a good one, but I placed my order for the rival ski plate. They’re back in stock so I should be getting it soon.

Cool. I need to check with Rival then to find out when I can go pick up my engine skid plate. It was on backorder when I ordered my plates.

I should also mention that I'm using an oil drain plug valve with tubing called ValvoMax which eliminates the need to use a funnel when draining the oil from the pan.

Hi all! The 6 Gen 4Runner ALL come with the front crossmember, no matter what trim level (unlike the Tacoma). They are ready to mount any skid plates.

For clarification, is the bumper compatible with any skid plate made for 6th Gen 4Runner i.e rival 4x4’s or the Trailhunter oem skid plate?

Our Bumper ends at exactly the same spot as the OEM front end, so any plate that is designed to fit the OEM front end, should work.

Hello all,

I'm awaiting the arrival of my first 4Runner...a '25 TRD Sport Premium RWD. Yes, I know...it's the mall crawling, street version of an awesome SUV. I wanted the sportier styling as I'm not a off-roader or overlander. However, I am very interested in driving this new 4Runner for at least the next 15 years hopefully & I want to protect it as much as reasonably possible. I'm looking into some skids plates for it to protect it from road debris & the like. I do a lot of highway driving due to living 45 miles from my place of work & occasionally have hit various objects while driving my '03 Tundra so I know that potential damage can be sustained by simply highway driving & even street driving. I'd prefer to avoid any damage rather than hope it doesn't happen & have to get costly repairs performed. I'm aware that the Off Road & Off Road Premium trims come stock with a set of composite skid plates included. For all you off roaders & overlanders those composite skid plates just don't cut it...but for an owner like me I think they would be very sufficient to install on my incoming 4Runner for my use case scenario & especially because they will cost less than metal skid plates.

Does anyone in here know with certainty if the TRD Sport trims are manufactured ready to add on an engine skid plate, a transmission/transfer case skid plate & a differential skid plate without having to drill holes or make modifications?
(I know the RWD doesn't have a transfer case but I figure the more protection for the drive shaft the better.)

I'd entertain the option of buying a second-hand set of new composite skid plates from a new Off Road trim owner who has upgraded to some more substantial skid plates needed for their recreational activities assuming that I can verify that the composite skid plates will bolt on to my TRD Sport Premium properly without any issues.

Thanks in advance for your replies all.
You don’t need it for the street. Trust me.

As the originator of this thread, I just wanted to follow up by saying that I purchased a set of skids from Rival 4X4 while they were on sale. I've not yet had them installed though. They are a nice thickness, aluminium & have a decent looking powder coating on them.
I installed them on mine and am very satisfied. For one, there is a service opening on the engine plate which makes the oil changes easy in contrast to the factory plates.

I just installed the Land Cruiser FRONT skid plate, PT228-60242, on my 6th Gen SR5 4Runner(NON-HYBRID). Installation was a breeze and all the holes lined up EXACTLY. The kit comes with (6) 12mm bolts and a black metal bracket which I did not use (probably for a Land Cruiser). It took me all of about 20min to install by myself. Dimensions are approximately 28.5" x 38".

Purchased from my dealerships website ($360) and picked up at their parts department. Oddly, this saved me about $150 as opposed to doing a "walk-in" purchase.

** FYI, the slotted holes are to hang the skid plate in place, for single person installation.

Hope this helps

I like this. Just one question. How thin is the metal. Like can you put your foot in the middle and pull on both ends with your arms and bend it? Or is it stronger than that. Not trying to be funny but just want to know what I’m buying. Thanks!!!
