Do you have a vibration in your 4R? Dealer having issues diagnosing? (Blaming tires?)

I got new Goodyear Workhorse HT 265/70 r17 tires yesterday. SL rated HT, not the AT. I wanted the best chance of highway tires to smooth this thing out. Unfortunately I believe there is still vibration. I go on a highway trip on Friday and will confirm back afterwards, but I honestly think it's something in the drivetrain, even though Toyota will deny that I am guessing.

Well, if it doesn't remove the vibration then I believe this is a recall in the making.

I have wheel vibration issues onm y Trailhunter, which i purchased on July 31st. 3 techs drove it and said they didn't find any issues and said it was just the natural feel of the Old Man Emus suspension - BS!...
That's pretty hilarious! It would be interesting to hear them explain how any of the suspension components cause an actual vibration. Clunking on bumps? Sure. Poor handling in turns or when braking? Absolutely. But a vibration? Highly unlikely unless you just installed a lift that can push the caster out of spec. Vibes are typically a resonation from a rotating mass, right? So wheels/tires are first culprits, driveshafts or half shafts are next on the list, and lastly (and most costly) axle shafts or transmissions.

Agreed. As mentioned in my 1st post, I think it goes beyond wheels/tires. People with vibration issues being told it's "normal" after dealer attempts to fix should call Toyota customer care and open a case. My guess is the above. It's drivetrain. I'm guessing differentials or maybe driveshaft.

Yep, I have opened a case and they sent me to the local dealer, who couldn't fix it 100%, but did so marginally. I just opened a new case yesterday with Toyota national as well as posting on NHTSA complaints site.
Since they did put 2 new tires on it, it did improve, but only up to 65 mph. It still vibrates after that. Hence, I think the tires are prob the issue. Looked at Discount Tire today at K03s. It will cost me $1600 for 4 new tires, but prob should replace spare too, so $2k. Will pay it if it was guaranteed to fix issue. Should I have to pay it, heck no... but peace of mind is worth it to me.

In my edit, I mentioned the swapped to four different brand tires, overinflated to 41/43 psi. Bringing them back down to 33 (per door), vibration is quite noticeable. I really don't think it's the tires. It's not the wheels (road force set-up checks this). It's mechanical, oscillating.

Dealer called saying their official stance will be back to Toyota saying region mgr says "feels like all others". When I pointed out he probably drove it at 43, and not 33, he is either implicit in knowing the tires were over inflated to reduce vibration (increase harshness, again, see op), or didn't know it was that high (hello, harshness?) and needs to come back and get another ride at the correct pressures.

Service manager was not happy with that information... That it was not road checked properly and both lead tech and regional mgr "did something", or "failed to set it properly" either way, they need to fix this.

Keep on them. Clearly Toyota knows this has to be a known issue by now.
BTW, what new tires did they put on it?

Still vibration at high speed even after new tires. I was really hoping the tires were the problem but I guess it is back to the dealer service dept.

That sucks. I am about to call Toyota. I have a 2nd case opened with them. They told me they dont warranty the tires, so told me to call Toyo. What a sham this is.
Also, did you add a complaint to the NHTSA website? I pasted a link to it somewhere. Toyota will only do something if they get publicly facing complaints. I did this for my BMW motorcycle and they issued a global recall after enough complaints.

I am not sure if this will also effect our 4runners, but I know they share a lot of the same parts as the Tacoma. I have an appt with the service shop foreman in 2 weeks and I will certainly show him this Tacoma drivetrain recall, especially since vibration is a symptom.

Prob a good chance the vibration issues are related considering how.much the Tacoma and 4Runners share same parts. I hope enough 4Runner owners complain about this that Toyota issues a recall.

I have a 2025 6th gen 4Runner Sport Premium with the Nitto Ridge tires in 20 inch. I have not had any issues with vibration at any speed and go at 75 80 mpg and a few times 90. So it may indeed be the tires and not the car or I just got lucky.
However, Several years ago I had a Ford F-350 and at speeds between 65 to 75 I had a major wobble. It was not the tires. I took it to a truck shop and don't remember what they did but they corrected the problem without changing the tires. I had BF Goodrich A/T KO2 tires.

Tony, They replaced 3 tires of same brand. Vibration. Replaced all four with different brand. Vibration.

The individual I spoke to today from Toyota appears to also be focused on the tires also when from day one, I have clearly said vibration. Why? "Tires aren't warranty items". No duh? It's the "go away, we won't work to resolve the issue" phrase.

Thing is, if I shell out money for new tires again, and it exists still... Is it tires? I want the vibration gone before I buy new tires and wheels.

If I knew someone local that we can swap, test drive, swap back, I'd be all for that too. Just to see.
