On top of that, it's just an example of chatter. Any first year completely understands chatter, what causes it, and various ways to address it.

It boggles me that Toyota don't know exactly what part of the design of the caliper is allowing it to happen, and 3 different ways to disrupt it by now after this long since it's been reported.

Are all the old engineers gone and now we only have a new generation of idiots who did not learn from the people they replaced? Did they ask chatgpt to design it and that's how we got things like the upside down spring retainers in the center console cup holders? (then again, an upside down tensioner in a cup holder is a huge improvenent over the upside down lower ball joints in the 3rd gen, so I'll take that trade all day)
(Then again, again, they knew it was a problem and they addressed it, by making the oem lbj's ridiculously high quality so the ball and race at least lasts as long as humanly possible.)

My guess is they do know and it's simply expensive. Some part of the back plate holding the whole caliper needs to be heavier or have a slightly different geometry, and that would be a ridiculously expensive free repair for a squeak that doesn't affect safety or performance and only even happens in special conditions. They are trying to do anything to avoid that.

Toyota sent me a bunch of questions to respond via email. I did yesterday and included a timeline and videos. They did ask has the truck ever failed to brake or has there been any performance issues. I said no I mean there technically isn’t. But there is a huge difference in those who only hear it lightly and those who hear it super god dam loud. Basically here is a snapshot of my squealing yesterday I removed the video links don’t wanna be on camera although the last video for 630pm bacially I reversed in my driveway, then pulled in again and reversed again probably 5 times each time squealing on camera.

  • 7:00 AM: Loud squeal reversing out of my driveway. Drove 15 minutes to the store. After 20 minutes parked, no squeal when leaving.
  • 12:30 PM: Loud squeal reversing out of driveway. No squeal leaving the store.
  • 2:00 PM: No noise leaving driveway.
  • 6:30 PM: Backed out several times and it squealed loudly each time.

Same... I got my TSB fix done on 08/16/2025, and today (08/25/2025) I reversed out of a parking spot and the squealing started up again.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got the car since 7/9/25. Have noticed the squeal when backing out of my garage in the last few weeks so I was kinda monitoring it. Then upon coming back from a round trip from LA to Sacramento (approx 1000 miles), the problem was much worse and even got my neighbor's attention who insisted on me taking it to the dealer ASAP! Took it to to the dealer this morning, 8/12/25, and left it there after reporting the ensuing issue. Two hour later, they called me back and has the problem fixed. Looking at the paperwork, it shows the familiar problem with TSB-0046-25. The fix replaced the following (copy/paste verbatim): 04465-34040 PAD KIT, DISC BRA, 04945-00060 SHIM KIT, ANTI SQ, 04947-00030 FITTING KIT, DISC and 08887-80609 BRAKE CALIPER GRE. Free of charge under warranty of course!
9/3/25 - The squeal has been back again on reverse and more noticeable lately. Had an appointment with the same dealer on 9/4. Will keep you all posted.

We're getting close to 5000 miles, made an appointment for our first service on Sept. 26th and asked them to look up the bulletin and order the parts - six weeks from setting the appointment. We don't have the backward squeal all of the time and some days it's horribly loud - had a neighbor call - and others not so loud or prolonged - a crap shoot on a daily basis. Once I drive forward and then later back up don't have the issue any longer. Love ours - a Heritage Blue Premium Hybrid - get 26 to 27 mpg on the highway and even short drives 16-21 mpg generally in normal mode. I don't like the sound of the engine in Eco mode. It holds its speed on cruise and has no problems going over passes. The 4 cylinder turbo means business when you pass someone. I wasn't prepared for a vehicle with nowhere to store a purse easily but a very minor inconvenience. We've received a lot of compliments on the color and the new body style. We got ours in Texas and had it shipped to Colorado - found it on the allocation list - bought it sight unseen and it came with everything except the floor mats. Got on the waiting list last November and was 70th on the list in a small community, one was allocated to come to our dealer in May, so looked elsewhere before the tariffs hit for one thing and found one in April.

This is how it sounded this morning 😡😡. It started two weeks ago as very low noise, but today it went back to the way it was before July 14 when they did some work (not the TSB)

Exactly the same as what I have had with my SR5. Fixed on 8/12/25 with the TSB and back again as of this writing 9/5. Took it the dealer yesterday 9/4 and they confirmed that the squeal comes from the rear brake this time around! However they don't have a fix so they created a case with Toyota engineering and will keep me updated. At least they assured me that the squeal is just annoying and no harm now!

Man they are stupid if they said it’s coming from the rear. The tsb doesn’t fix the front noise issue why do they assume it’s not the front?

Heard there's a revision to the TSB with a revised new part:

04947-60140 - Fitting Kit, Disc Brake Front (Anti-rattle Spring)

The original TSB's part number for this was #04947-0C030.

That's the only difference in the revised TSB.

I really don't get why your dealer is giving you such a hard time over this. It is warranty, they should just replace them and be done with it. At my dealership, customer complains about an issue, we see a corresponding TSB, we test drive it to replicate the issue, then we do the job. As simple as that.

For people getting the noise back after having already had the TSB performed, I am wondering if they are going update the TSB and do what they did on the Tundra, which is also replace the rotors. The pads and hardware are all the same from that Tundra TSB just without the rotors.

They released an updated tsb yesterday it just calls for a different anti rattle clip. My dealer is trying to fix the issue. I found out is on new cars dealership won’t fix anything under warranty unless Toyota approves since they need to covered by Toyota. Toyota is blocker here. But honestly it’s been to long already

Huh weird, at my dealer we do the work and submit the claim after the work is performed. We then retain the parts until told to dispose of them in case they want to inspect them.

We just did our first TSB on a 4Runner yesterday(ordered the parts the day before) so the TSB had not been updated yet. I still think it may end up updating again though. I just don't see how one vehicle with the exact same parts needs rotors while the other doesn't.

My dealership called me yesterday to let me know after they replaced all of the front brake parts that Toyota provided them to fix the problem it still is making the same noise. I have owned several Toyota’s through the years and I know they will take the time to make it right for the customer but until they do I will continue to drive the brand new Toyota’s they have loaned me to use while they get the issue resolved. Will keep you in the loop as we move forward with this issue.

Took my 4Runner on August 16th to get the TSB done. They completed the repair the same day and everything was good for a while. After a week I noticed the squeal came back when reversing specifically on rainy days or when backing up when the car is cold.
Took the car to the dealership on September 6th and they posted a video on my Toyota profile were the mechanic says that the car is doing the same noise after they completed the TSB and now he is requesting Toyota technical assistance to solve the issue.
The service agent that I was assigned says that they should get a response within 24 hours from Toyota technical assistance.

I don’t think they have determined the real source of the squealing noise.

At what point should I claim lemon law? I don’t think $50k plus car should have this type of issues.

contact your service guy, they just revised the tsb on the 4th of this month. Have them look closely the only part they changed was the anti rattle clip. It was a different part number before the 4th… I haven’t seen any posts of anyone having it done recently since the 4th to know if that will even work. FYI mine squeals loudly also, seems like it’s after it’s been sitting at least 4 hours it will squeal so loud. Toyota customer service can’t help with the squeal the referred me to the warranty manual in the glovebox and I am currently following those steps outlined 1-3
