Do you have to have Toyota Drive Connect to use Driver Profiles?

I turned off all the Toyota app options to preserve my privacy, but now I don;t see anyway to set up different driver profiles so my wife and I can have our own settings and seat positions depending on which key is used to unlock the 4Runner. Am I missing a setting or is this just due to that feature not being available without the Toyota App on our phones?

I believe that’s right - you lose driver profiles, digital key, and a few other things if you turn off all the data collection. Pretty crappy way to treat customers, but IMHO, it’s worth it to not have Toyota spying and selling your location data.

This is the one thing I truly detest about the modern 4Runners.

Oh well, at least we still have the 2 buttons for the different seat positions.

Privacy is always a concern, but to me, not here. As I choose to trust Toyota with my life (my complex vehicle), I choose to trust them with my privacy data. Besides, they only have what you give them, so probably nothing all that sensitive (no, they are not going to give out financial data and such).

Location data is among the most sensitive information. While cell phone location data is protected, location data from vehicles isn't.

I trust their engineers. I don't trust their marketing department.

There is literally a class action lawsuit against Toyota right now for selling customer data directly to anyone with a pocketbook, mainly insurance companies.

They are absolutely not your friend here, and your best interests don't rank in the first 20 bullets on a list of things they give a crap about.

Hmm, OK. It would be interesting to know exactly what data they share--it is hard to tell how "private" it really is. It would be nice, though, if that sort of sharing stopped.

meh, at least toyota gives you the option to turn off all collections unlike others.

if you want the features you have to agree to the terms, if you dont like the terms forgo the features.

and dont get me started the insurance trackers to lower your insurance ...

Yep, it didn’t keep me from buying the vehicle, but it’s an annoyance, especially the digital key piece, since that was a paid addon.
