411whp / 435wtq upgraded turbo 6th Gen build - Installing the TEQSPORT T550X Turbo & Ecutek Tune (Bolt-On Ball Bearing Turbocharger Upgrade)

Well, this is exciting. The 4Runner went into the shop last week to install the TEQSPORT T550X turbo. This is a totally new design drop-in ball-bearing turbo for the T24, not an upgraded CHRA in a stock housing.

Modifications up to this point are the following;

SXTH Element Intercooler
AWE 0FG Exhaust
TEQSPORT Intake (Pre-Production)
TEQSPORT Turbo Inlet (Pre-Production)
TEQSPORT Ecutek Tune

The dyno below is from a few weeks ago with the setup above, when ambient temps were around 95 degrees. (Really speaks for how well the intercooler is working, way to go SXTH!)

Making mid 300's and over 400wtq is pretty satisfying; that's about 80whp and 90wtq above the baseline. It'll be cool to see where this lands with the bigger turbo.

Dang I didn't even know Ecutek supported our platform yet. So you're doing a full custom flash tune on it?

Yep! They've been on the platform for a little while. Pretty cool.

It'll get a full tune on the dyno over at Z1 / TEQSPORT.

It's done, and the numbers are in...we made a respectable 411whp and 435wtq!

When this thing was stock, it made 271whp and 342wtq on the same dyno, which means that with this setup we've picked up 140whp and 93wtq, which is HUGE!! Our original baseline was completed when ambient air temps were in the 30's, whereas yesterday we were at about 95 degrees outside. This is a testament to the effectiveness of the SXTH Element Intercooler, and has me pretty excited for fall weather.

We're near the limit of 93-octane fuel, and it has more potential, but there's a restriction in the charge air system that's holding it back as well. More updates to come....

First impressions driving it are kinda what you expect. Coming from stock power to this is pretty astounding. Having had a few built Corvettes and other fun past cars, I can confidently say that a 4Runner has no business being this fun and looking this stock.

Right, I should have clarified. My main concern is the tune. He has the teqsport tune, and considering they are the ones helping him install I'd imagine its a custom tune of sorts. The clarity I guess I'm looking for is if I would have to go to OTT for a custom tune or reflash for the teqsport tune

Solid setup tbh. You'll have to toss the turbo inlet and get a TEQSPORT inlet, it won't work with the larger T550X compressor housing. I'm also not sure if OTT supports custom tuning, probably worth checking with them. Otherwise, you're solid!

It is a 100% custom tune. To be transparent, I actually work at TEQSPORT. We offer tuning support but it's totally possible OTT may support custom tuning. If not, that's something TEQSPORT can certainly do.

Is the restriction the throttle body inlet elbow? I noticed there was no mention of an upgrade to this in your build list.

Would be interested to see, if this is the case, how much additional power can be made with the increased efficiency in the intake tract.

Just installed the AMS throttle body inlet elbow on my Tacoma and even without a tune to take advantage of it or really any other intake modifications other than a TRD Pro intake - it is clear the truck likes it.

Been watching for the Teqsport turbo inlet elbow patiently and am interested in the new turbo as well. Thinking the turbo elbow will pair well with the throttle body elbow and a high flow downpipe even with the stock turbo. Excited to see what you folks come up with.
