Will a 285/75/17 fit where the spare tires goes?

I have an ORP Hybrid, so it comes with a full spare. I am getting a lift and tires soon, but trying to figure out if the new tire size will fit? I think I have read that 285/70/17 will fit, but not sure about 285/75/17.

There is a 1.25" difference in diameter between the stock tire and the new one.

Anybody actually do this? Thanks!

Your 285/75R17 (nominally 33.8" dia.) is likely 0.1" bigger in diameter than the 285/70R18s (33.7") referenced in the link. It fit but required removing brackets. You probably could do the same. (note: your tire will be 20 mm lower (less ground clearance) than the stock 265 - something to consider.)
My 285/75R18 (34.8") will NOT fit so I'm carrying spare in the cargo area or on the roof when off-roading; and swap back to stock tires when not planning to be off-road. Maybe a swing-out someday when there is a good camera relocation solution.
