I've owned mine for almost a year now, just turned 15K miles. Absolutely no regrets on the purchase (other than the price).
Minor nits:
Lane Departure Assist - I've turned it off.
Lane Tracing Assist - its fine other than it doesnt sense when my hands are just resting on the wheel so it warns me too often.
How the sensors deal with a bike rack. PITA
The gas door iced up a number of times this past winter.
Just noticed how pitted my windshield is.
The folding of the back seats obviously.
The button to open the power lift gate has to be held for more than just a push.

Other than that I really love it.

I own a TRD Pro mudbath and couldn’t be more happier with she. Love the driving, the automatic assistance, the 33’ tires , absolutely love the suspension, the fox shocks, distance to floor, like to hit every obstacle on the street and off road and it’s a beast! No noises, no rattles šŸ¤˜šŸ»

I love the paint, the mudbath seems darker, almost brown with direct sun on it, it’s beautiful and like the quality as well. šŸ™ŒšŸ»šŸ’„

1 year May 3rd. Our first 4runner, and Toyota tbf

Pros:
1. Power is always available. Wife loves the turbo
2. Comfort. Probably the most comfortable vehicle we've owned, right behind our F150 Platinum.
3. Physical buttons for pretty much everything. We absolutely hate loathe and despise screen based buttons.
4. 4WD. Who doesn't love 4WD
5. Ride height

Cons:
1. Step in height. At 6'4, the step in height is such that the running boards completely useless and I barely scuff the seat as I slide in. Wish there was an electric step board option for every trim level.
2. Grab handles are crap
3. Seats don't fold flat, but absolutely not a deal breaker
4. Gas mileage, but we didn't buy it for fuel efficiency
5. 4WD selection knob sits way too close to my thigh, and rubs periodically
6. Stock wheels are Fking ugly...
7. Roof height for my head. With the sunroof, I come less than an inch from the roof liner and feel it as I shift in the seat.

Wouldn't trade it for anything

I took delivery of my 2026 limited on February 2nd. I keep telling myself I like it, but I’m not happy with the back seat or the 4 cylinder. My dogs have a hard time jumping in and this noisy engine I don’t like. It has plenty of get up and go, but just makes so much racket. I’m not a fan of the transmission either, I find it very clunky at slow speeds. I had a 2020 Passport and I miss the smooth V6 and the nice 9 speed transmission it had.

The 4 Runner is very nice looking and I think when I saw it, I just fell in love with its looks and didn’t pay attention to its short comings.

18,000 miles in

CONS:
- Lane Assist is bad...over steers / swerves you back in
- Cramped back seat but kids dont mind
- Constant carplay drop connectivity (didn't happen before until I updated the OS.... could be phone more than car)
- weird clunk in drivetrain when doing slight acceleration and braking in stop and go traffic... Could be a normal truck behavior
- hard shift in the morning then disappears
Seems like your driveshaft needs lubrication?
As for my own experience after a month.
The extra height , it is like a factory lift and I would say unnecessarily high for most ,exit in particular is awkward compared to 5th gen.
Interior space is adequate but awkward.
The 4wd shift is not precise when I first used it , it went straight to 4lo , never had that happen in 5th gen.
That center console grab handle is a nuisance makes it hard to plug anything into the USB ports.
The squared off glove compartment makes the passenger space cramped
Most of the driving assists have to be turned off except rear cross traffic alert
Try parking in a tight garage space with the park assist(ridiculous)
Fuel economy is only a bit better than 4L V6 most of that is the 8speed, with the same 5speed I think it could more thirsty
Things I like but didn't think I would
The large infotainment screen
Looks terrible in pictures but when driving isnt intrusive
Other positives ,the serious nature of the thing once past the silly tech ,apart from the ridiculous front spoiler it is hard-core from the factory
The cargo area is good and the recessed floor of the gas only model stops cargo liner shifting
Drives well if one drives conservatively, diesel like.
Acceleration is consequently not as quick as the pulling power would suggest but this is masked by the the low end torque
Oh and it weirdly drives big compared to 5th gen feels similar to the tundra.

I love everything so far but 2 major things that my Lexus had no issues with.

1 - Remote starting from the app, ALWAYS when approaching the car, my phone would NEVER connects until I reset the software by holding down the radios power button.

2 - My car seat settings also exhibits the same issue but I have to press the slide switch on the seat to move the seat forward then it tries to correct to my saved settings.

I've had my TRD Pro for about 8 months now. I absolutely love it. No buyers remorse. The list would be too long for me to write everything down that I like about it. I like everything about it.

My only complaint is small, and I'm used to it now. It's a little bit louder in the cabin....the drone type noise that you hear is noticeable. But, I wouldn't trade it in for anything.

Got mine March 20th 2025 have about 7900 miles on it.

Hate the f brake noise in reverse

Tranny can’t stay at 15mp without getting kicked around

interior rattles from the doors while playing music.

other than that still the best vehicle on earth and this is my 3rd one.

Overall, I love my TH. It's such a nice upgrade from the Gen 1 4Runner SR5.
Things that are less-than-stellar are the snorkel noise, the hatchback kick sensor -- I can never get it to work reliably, there's no way to turn on the A/C output without the engine running -- at least let me turn it on and if it needs to run the engine it should do that by itself. I'd like to see the power outputs be able to handle a Starlink mini. They don't quite have enough schlitz to power the unit up.

Hates:
  • Roof height is too low. Have a moonroof, I’m 6ā€0 and have 1 inch to ceiling with seat at the lowest. Why can’t front seat go lower?
  • Cup holders too small. Just make it bigger with longer ā€œgrabbersā€.
  • Back seat is too high. Doesn’t fold flat. And is too forward, meaning I have to push front seats forward to be able to lay them down.
  • Bulge on ceiling from moonroof - and even version without it - is unnecessarily large. You can’t lean forward when sitting in the back without hitting your head on the ceiling. Feels cramped as hell on your head and legs too.
  • Inside cabin everything is too large and in your face?

Coming up on 1 year and 8K miles with the OR hybrid.

Pros:
o Power is awesome
o Hybrid works great though it makes me wish for a bigger battery and traction motor. Stop/start feature is nice since the "start" part of the equation begins with traction motor and only after maybe 8mph the gas engine smoothly kicks in. Gas-only rentals I've driven with the stop/start feature are really annoying.

Cons:
o Downshifting for engine braking going down steep hills is annoying. The truck immediately wants to add power to match current speed, which is exactly what I DON'T want.

o Even more annoying and an issue I've posted here about is the "pulsing" behavior going downhill where for some reason the truck adds unwanted power in a jerking fashion. And, unwanted power going downhill means worse mileage and premature brake wear.

thats an inherent issue with BoF small vehicles with toyota, not so much on the tundra/sequoia/LC200 & 300 series or gx550 and higher models. the bigger vehicles have more cabin height to compensate for this where as the smaller BoF are shorter (except the lc250 which has 5in more height than the taco/4R

unibody vehicles dont have this issue

  • Back seat is too high. Doesn’t fold flat. And is too forward, meaning I have to push front seats forward to be able to lay them down.
same issue the 5th gen had, nothing new

  • Inside cabin everything is too large and in your face?
on the off road vehicles they tend to make things easier to use with winter gear on, so they make things larger overall with this in mind

I love it, coming from a 3rd Gen. Drives well, has enough power, what everyone else has been saying.

But - the gas tank seems too small and i am filling it up way more often. Integration between Carplay and Toyota could have been better. Somedays it works flawlessly, other days it is like my phone is not even in the car and it wont connect. If I want to switch to my wife's carplay mid trip, forgetaboutit.

Haven't had it for a year, bought a 2025 TRD-ORP a month ago and love it. Coming from a Jeep Wrangler makes it easy to love! Mechanically, the 4Runner is a real joy to drive! That said, I wish that I could leave sport mode on vs. having to turn it on every time I start the vehicle. Also, I wish I could leave Adaptive Cruise Mode off vs. having to turn it off every time I start the car. Last thing...why are all the notifications on the screen so obtrusive? I am sure I will get used to it, but I don't need my volume up notification to take up 1/4 of the screen.

All in, those are pretty minor. My Jeep Wrangler complaint list was 4 screens long.
