So far the only thing going well with 25 ORP is the ride. Love that! With only 6k miles, don’t expect so much rusting in the engine area and under. Pls see pics. An utter disappointment in Toyota! Also see the road salt stains splashing all the way up the engine area. Any comments will be helpful as I don’t exactly know what are these parts in the 2 pics with rusting.

Not seeing anything like this with 13k and taking it to the SC coast quite a bit.

Try Ark Splash Guards for the front wheel wells. Quit a bit of opening there and the splash guards should prevent a lot of that spray from reaching the engine bay.

I may. But what concerns me is that i feel this is a poorly designed and quality of material by Toyota? How to clean off this salt from engine bay without messing up electrical?

I’ve seen guys coat their engine bays in degreaser and spray it down with out issue. You just need to give it time to dry before starting it back up. Most of the components that would get damaged from water are air tight, just make sure you don’t spray anything in the air inlet for the air box and you should be fine. Plenty of videos on YouTube to watch on this.

At the end of the day, rust is warrantied by their corrosion warranty and Toyota learned their lesson in the early 2000s from poor corrosion protection. If you do have more than surface rust, they’ll take care of it right away.

Looks normal. Everyone will get a little surface rust, either from winter road treatment or from a trip to the beach. Driving through puddles on the road at the beach can be especially bad.

The casting rust seems to show up in a this forum quite a bit. Looks Looks like mine. But I am only at 3000 +/-
Cast the part, paint it then machine it?
The part seems hefty enough to handle many years of that? I do not see a problem.

I see the exhaust heat shield is not in good shape at 6000 miles. Somewhat concerning. Neither is some of the hardware around it. The shield looks like galv tin, not good long term. But most of that heat stuff is sacrificial around the exhaust system.
They could use a high grade SS but $$$$.

The area is very high temp, add moisture and salt - corrosion is inevitable.

It looks like that bracket has other uses. It has been machined to accept something which would cover the rusted area.
I can see how mass producing a multi use part would end up like that.

i scheduled an appointment in couple of weeks to have them have a look at it. I am hoping they address this promptly without issues. Toyota basic warranty is probably for workmanship and product quality issue such as what we are facing. Did they give u a hard time? Are you also noticing salt spray in tje engine bay?

My service advisor was very nice and listened to my story - only in salt (Michigan) for 2 days then Florida for the past 3 months. THEN the advisor mgr came by and he was real negative and stated that it was from road salt/exposure and wouldn’t be covered. Anyway they had the vehicle for about 1.5 hr and the advisor came out and said they were covering it and had ordered parts (still waiting for parts (3 wks). The key I think is to not mention corrosion warranty and to focus on a part(s) / coating/mfg defect. I just persisted with them that this is obviously not normal wear and if it was they would have hundreds of other vehicles with the same issue - they had never seen this type of corrosion before. I did use ChatGTP before I went to the dealer and it helped with my approach. My dealer is in FtMyers FL. I think I am going to buy the inserts from ARK to close the gap above the shocks. In the end I have no idea why this happened and only know that it shouldn’t.
