Hey all! Could someone pls tell me what is this part that is rusting, circled in red. I am hitting a wall dealing with Toyota to provide an evaluation report on why are they classifying this as normal. No luck with brand engagement either as they deferred this to the same service manager who claims to trying to reach regional toyota rep for report. Going ij circles essentially! My goal is to either get an official letter from toyota stating how they determined this as normal or fix this thing.

Pls advise n

Cat converter shield, made of thin sheet metal. Normal rust
This part is next and under the battery. I thought cat converter are under the body?

some vehicles they are. But that’s the first cat on the 6th gen, hence the upstream and downstream A/F sensors attached
Thanks! In your opinion, this is normal wear and tear rust for a vehicle with less than 8k miles?

IMHO it’s not really uncommon for cat shields, especially factoring in location/weather to get a bit rusty. It’s not something I would personally worry about or lose any sleep over. Hope this helps 👍🏻
