I've had a couple chances now to take the Trailhunter off road for a few hours. First time was fairly mild, I was in the Utah west desert, it was still dealership clean so I just wanted to get it dirty, but did take it up a pretty steep incline (inclinometer was maxed out at 30 degrees) over some pretty loose rocks about grapefuit size on average. The hill was about 100 yards in length and the 4runner went up it no problem. There was nothing else technical on that outing other than a pretty deep ditch that let me test out my approach and departure angles, ended up crossing it at an angle. It was a blast though, just driving over top of these rolling mountains that I would never be able to access in my previous vehicle (rav4 3rd gen) because there would always be that one filter spot I couldn't get through.
Next place I went to was in American Fork canyon on the 4th of July. This one was a lot more technical and really way too narrow for my vehicle, although the photos don't tell it because I took them at the wide spots where I could take a break and unclench a little bit. Chewed up my mudflaps a little bit going over big rocks, rubbed the spare a few times, and definitely got the pinstriping started on the sides. Definitely want to get some more flexible mudflaps for this thing. I haven't used the crawl control much but the downhill assist control is amazing. Going easy on the throttle going uphill isn't a problem for me but doing the same on the brakes is difficult for me, but the DAC takes me down over big rocks super softly. I also aired down and aired back up on this one with the built in compressor. It works well, the inflate is pretty loud so in the future I'll probably keep the back closed and run the hose out of the rear window just so I don't bother my neighbors, but it's super convenient having that built in.
Overall I love this thing, it feels like it will climb a tree while the interior is every bit as luxurious as I personally would ask for. I've tested 4hi, 4lo, MTS, crawl control, DAC, sway bar disconnect, and rear differential locker, and everything works just how I would expect it to. It's not perfectly 100% what I wanted (really no front lockers on a $70k vehicle?), but absolutely nothing was and this was the closest thing to 100% I could find.
