After the initial 20% down payment and financing was over with, I was brought into another "finance" office to go over ToyotaCare options. I selected the three in the picture. Was anyone else offered these? If so, which ones did you go with? This whole process made me feel a little uncomfortable, in a "how can we get this guy to give us more money each month" kind of way.

I loathe the dealer's upsell attempts by the financial person. In the past, I purchased things I never used or wasn't even fully aware of what was covered. What works best for me is declining all their coverage beyond the basic warranty and the included Toyota service plan. I prefer to have full coverage insurance with a $50.00 deductible. I've replaced a good number of windshields for $50. (If I caused the accident, my deductible is $500.00)

I got the major services up to 75K miles plan. Seemed like a good idea. I like that I can take to the dealer for every scheduled service (including all the major services) up to the 75K mile one and its all prepaid. And the records for everything service related will be in the dealer computer.

I did that with my 2020 limited Nightshade. They did all the services early, and when I traded it in in 2025, I only had 40K miles on it. Dollar for dollar, I would have saved money without it, but I think everybody should do what makes them feel at ease protecting their vehicle. Do you have a set number of years on service? I seem to remember having to use my 75K within 5 years, with maybe a small extension if they granted it.

Interesting how they labeled it "TOYOTA CARE" options. That's a dealer contract, since Toyota care is across the board on every dealer: 2 oil changes and rotation + 2 rotation. All in 5k intervals.
That's how it was explained to me.
Basically your paying for service up front.

Good point there. If you plan on keeping the vehicle for long time and want to pay up front and o sweat later, all good then! But if you sell it sooner you might loose that money.

I agree on the uneasiness of the process. My initial response was no to everything. They came back and knocked half off of the extended warranty and tire/keyfob protection. Then I went for it, but probably could have found it even cheaper later (based on other forum posts).
I was only offered the future service deal for the first five years. The total was less than what I calculated based on $90 dealer oil change. The dealer was specific that the changes were only every 10k miles. With this new filter setup, I've got no issues handling the 5k change in between.

1. toyota care is 24 months or 25k miles at 10k intervals (but you can use the 2 free anytime within those restrictions)

2. the tire rotations are every 5k miles if i remember but i never do them on my 14 Limited since its FT4WD, rarely do the tires get out of wear sync for me at least

toyota does actually sell those types of service agreements.

Thanks for the info. I always thought those extended service and protection packages were dealer sells not a car manufacturer.
The Dealer totally skipped that step in my case.

Don't do it. They only ask because it's a huge money maker for them. You will save lots of $ by just saying no. Even if you said yes to their BS , you have 3 days to cancel. I know it's exciting to buy a new care but say no please. Tire rotations you get with most oil changes. The rest is pure profit.

Just like the last 20 new vehicles we have purchased I bought none of what they offered. I buy Toyota/Lexus for a reason.

the only one that is viable is the oil change one. if you get the long term one, you could save money since you are paying today's prices for oil changes and hedge to price increases in the future for the same oil changes.

but that is dependent on if you dont EVER dont do oil changes. if you are a person that lets the dealer do them, it could save you money in the long run.

personally i quit doing oil changes years ago, just cant physically do a lot of stuff now as i get closer to retirement. too much hard work as a heating specialist when we had med/high temp (400 psi steam lines) heating lines feeding buildings from a heat plant.

tire/wheel PDR glass plan is good if you have a spouse/kids that cant figure out curbs or you are in a location that has regular hail or constructions.

there is also a keyfob plan (i think) if you have forgetful spouse/kids and losing fobs ($350-400) for the new vehicles for a replacement.

but outside of those mentioned above, if you have diligent spouse/kids, the above plans will never get a decent ROI for the cost.

i think the only one i usually get is the toyota OEM VSA contract. if you go thru fd-warranty for one, the cost only comes out to around $200/yr if you go 10/100k plan as you only get 7yrs/89k from the way toyota implements the ext warranty plans. typically the 10/100 platinum is like around $1500 +/- $100

(they cover like 10yrs/125k but only start after the factory 3yrs/36k warranty ends) so hence the 7 yrs 89k coverage, or 64k mileage if you go 10/100k plan, i think its around $2100 for the 10/125k plan

the 10yrs/125k plan jumps like $500-$600 for another 25k coverage but the cost ratio isnt very worthwhile if you run the numbers.

edit : just a big note, DO NOT get a toyota VSA from the dealer and turn around and canx it and try to get it thru fd-warranty again. toyota financial has a weird quirk that if you canx it once, you cant get it again.

also this again only applies to toyota usa regions (servco - hawaii, GST and SET do not offer toyota VSA plans) but surprisingly kendall family group in alaska does offer toyota VSA's

The dealer told me every 10k miles as well. I'm going to do every 5k, like you said. I'm really glad they finally put the standard oil filters back in. The 5th gen was a PITA!
