Yes definitely worth getting if there's any possibility at all that you'll do any towing. The reason being if you don't get the Tow Tech Package, your 4Runner won't come with the harness for plugging in a trailer brake controller. And even dealerships can't retrofit install the OEM harness. So if you don't get the Tow Tech Package your only option will be an aftermarket trailer brake controller. Is it worth getting the tow tech package? Can you add this at the dealership?
did you have this done? I've since talked to service and they definitely won't install it. though maybe they're talking about the mirror portion of the tow tech package? It can be dealer installed. Gonna pay more than you would most likely if it wasn’t already added on before the build.
No. I’m in a TRD Pro. Mine came with all the things. I was meaning if it wasn’t handled by the Dealership selecting it as a FIO with their allocation. You’re not gonna have it.did you have this done? Yeah we looked but opted to get one without b/c the sales guy said it could be installed there. He's wrong of course and I know that now. Did you purchase one without it? Did you try doing a search to see if any close by or within a certain amount of radius they had any with that package?
I'm really keen on trying that out on a tiny trailer. They're hard to back up straight LOLpersonally kinda interested in the straight path assist feature. i might be pulling a uhaul 4x6 or 5x8 trailer in june so that looks promising. just ran thru the manual on the caiibration for the trailer learning and it seems simple to calibrate.
wont need the TBC since uhaul trailers that are 6x12 uses surge brakes, the smaller ones dont have brakes.
Sorry that happened to you. Some sales people know nothing.Yeah we looked but opted to get one without b/c the sales guy said it could be installed there. He's wrong of course and I know that now. But I replied to you because you literally said "It can be dealer installed" ...
Last December, we went looking for a 2026 Ice Cap ORP with upgraded black wheels, no moonroof, etc. We saw only a few with the Tow Tech Package, but they all had a moonroof.Yeah we looked but opted to get one without b/c the sales guy said it could be installed there. You ain't wrong about progressive lenses and that mirror LOL!Last December, we went looking for a 2026 Ice Cap ORP with upgraded black wheels, no moonroof, etc. We saw only a few with the Tow Tech Package, but they all had a moonroof.
It quickly became clear that if we waited to get every option we wanted, we could be waiting for a while. Not having a moonroof was more of a priority than having the TTP.
Also, during test drives using the digital mirror while wearing progressive eyeglasses was not comfortable.
yeah too bad you couldnt find a dealer that would put in an allocation reserve request for what you actually wanted. You ain't wrong about progressive lenses and that mirror LOL!
On the subject of waiting for the one with the right options, I found that (on the ORP at least), what options they came with were almost entirely dependent upon sales region. Mid Atlantic, wherever Missouri is, and Mountain were the only regions where I could reliably find ORPs with both the tow package and Aux switches. GST, almost all of them had the tow package, but zero with aux switches. CA (and I think SET) were the opposite, all with aux, but no tow.
It was really bizarre, and made it difficult to find an ORP with both.
