It mattered to me. The fact that the Tacoma isn’t, swayed me even further (I’ve owned 3 4R and 1 Taco) when I was deciding on going back to a Tacoma.
There is definitely an edge to the fit and finish of Tahara JP products vs Toyota Mexico.
However....
Finally got around to DIY detailing the car with polish and ceramic.
Would say the paint, while glossy and even, does exhibit imperfections here and there.
Very tiny bubbles in the roof or hood can be spotted if you look with a light for example.
I just hope the clear coat and paint is more durable on these 4Runners than seen on other Toyota vehicles like the Tacoma, which are still plagued with paint problems - especially the white color.

tahara plant is the toyota most loved kid in the family. its also the biggest if i remember correctly and also where most of the lexus models are made.
not sure if they still do this with employee's but if i remember correctly, every employee is vested in the plant at tahara, so they tend to be more conscious of quality than plants outside japan since quality reports reflects bonuses for plant workers.
again not sure if that is still a thing or not as its been quite a while since i read that report on that specific plant.

the plant roughly encompasses 4000 ft across (from the sea wall to the west side of the plants buildings) by roughly 5100 ft long (top of the staging aread to the to bottom of the plant buildings)
years ago the wind turbines were added, roughly 14 across the whole area. from the staging area and counter clockwise around the north and west and southwest of the area. you can see them better looking at google maps here
