Rotate to maximize clearance and match the front
Horizontal and Hexagonal like your front.Hey everyone,
We’ve been working on a prototype rear recovery point for the 4Runner and wanted to get some outside perspective before we move further. I’ve attached a few photos below.
A couple of questions we’d love your thoughts on:
- Do you like the general placement and design?
- Does the clearance look right to you for off-road use?
- Anything you’d change about the mounting setup or overall look?
This is still an early prototype so nothing is final. We really value input from people who actually use these trucks the way they’re meant to be used.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Looks like what I had in mind. How close is the color match to the OEM Toyota front recovery points? We appreciate all the feedback!

If these are finished the same as their fronts (I'm hoping so, so they match), then they're anodized. Toyota's are powdercoated. So they're not going to look the same at all.Looks like what I had in mind. How close is the color match to the OEM Toyota front recovery points?
We use an anodized finish, so they will look quite different.Looks like what I had in mind. How close is the color match to the OEM Toyota front recovery points?
These are designed and rated for straight-line pulls, since that’s always the safest way to recover. The points are cut from 7075 aluminum, which is actually stronger than mild steel in yield strength, so the recovery point itself isn’t the weak link. In an extreme off-angle pull or a big drop where all the force hits one side, the frame mounting area would usually take the hit before the point bends. Best practice is to keep pulls straight whenever possible, or use a bridle strap if you need to come from an angle.Doing a straight pull from the back looks fine.
That has a real long lever arm, what would happen if the pull was from the side or dropping off a ledge and the recovery point takes the full force of the drop? Bent recovery point or bent frame?
Yes! We will have both black and red anodized finish available. Red tends to be the most popular, but you can check out our Tacoma recovery points for a black example .Will it come in black?
