I dont ever use the rear seats so removed 60 percent side of second row and built a level platform. To make it level I lost some space underneath but it is a net gain of space.

I Thought about making it level with the rear cargo area but I kept it lower for now. Might make a second shelf to be level with rear platform at some point, but going to try this out. I Used longer 10m bolts and U- bolts to attach to brackets and holes where seat was mounted.

Cut the plywood to fit in the 4runner using the inverter on my 4runner :)

Nice work! I've been thinking about doing this same thing, except on the smaller drive side seat.
Thanks. If you did the driver's side you wouldn't have to worry about the center hump and the platform could be a couple inches lower. I will probably do that eventually, I never have passengers.

It is nice having a lower load floor to access from the side door. I can look down into a cooler. Also when I slide my mountain bike in the back it fits a lot better than it did with the seat folded down. A seat probably weighed 70 lbs and platform weighs 20 lbs so I gained some payload as well haha.

Nice well thought out platform. I am at some point going to do the same thing. Mine will be most likely be flush with the rear cargo space area as I do not have the hybrid. But carrying lots of utilitarian items the 60/40 delete would serve me well.

Question for you, did your engine light come on? did it throw a code for unplugging the rear seat safety belts? Thanks in advance

No error lights after unplugging the seat. I have had the seat out for a while and I dont get any "check your rear seat" reminders or seat belt reminders for the missing seat

Hauling mountain bikes inside is one of my biggest beefs with the 6th gen hybrid. I love it my 6th gen but sucks that there's not enough room for hauling. I could fit 2 bikes upright with the front wheels off in my 4th gen. I rarely carry passengers myself so this is why I was thinking about ditching a seat.

Yea my heart sunk the first time I went to put bikes in the back lol. Like you, i used to take the front wheel off and put 2 bikes in the back if my land cruiser all the time. It is hillarious how little space there is in the hybrid. The car looks so big on the outside but the cargo space is not practical for bikes.

If I take out the underfloor cargo cover thing at the back I can take the front wheel off and stand up one bike, but not 2.

I have been putting the bikes on my roof rack a lot more lately.

What LC did you have? I had 100 series before the 4th gen 4Runner. Seats tumbled forward in it but there was still room for 2 mtn bikes lol.

For winter snow biking I was able to get my fat bike in the back, standing up, but I had to wrestle it in there. It's a lot shorter than the mtn bikes.

Yeah, it’s the main reason I didn’t get the Pro or TH as well. Would have loved the added torque of the hybrid, but I need that storage space more.

I had a 1999 100 series. all the cargo space... Here are a couple pics of bike. I have to tilt it over to get it through the opening but it actually fits best fork forward. Could probably fit 2 bikes if I removed other 2nd row seat.

Yep. I got a good deal on the hybrid and I thought I could deal with the smaller cargo area, but if I could do it over again I would get the non-hybrid.

One week after purchasing I asked my dealer about trading it for a non-hybrid and they said I would take a 6k hit on the trade in lol, so I just decided to be ok with the small cargo area.

Yeah I need to do this. What size bike is that?
