I'm sure I'm not the first to ask this this but I'm not finding it. On my 25 4RUNNER SR5 when I use the remote start from the app. I lose Android Auto and I have to go into settings on the head unit and toggle it back on. I understand the truck is searching for my phone. Is the a work around for that?

Thanks

My take on it is that because I started it remotely and the phone isn't in the truck it gives up looking for it after a minute or two.
When I get in it takes a few clicks to go to phones, select mine, and toggle Android Auto on then it finds it.
Not sure of any workaround if the phone isn't in the car when it starts.

The same thing happens to me with iOS CarPlay. If the phone isn't in the car, remote start doesn't detect it and I have to go through the onboard menus to turn it on. I doubt there is a fix for this as CarPlay obviously requires the phone to be present.

Push your volume button until your screen goes dark and it resets, it will reconnect to your phone.
Good idea. That basically turns the system off and turns it back on after the phone is in the car. Much easier than going through the menus. Thank you!

Remote start may be a cause but that also happens when i park and return with the phone on me.
Start all over again pairing.
Some times carplay drops out as well. But not always.
PITA
The pushbutton idea could be good.

At least others in the parking lot won't see some random 4runner guy yelling at his dashboard.

just push the volume button for 5 secs and the head unit will soft reset and reconnect/re-initialize the re-connect process with your phone.

as @Archer mentioned

also if you get in and do a takeover of the remote start, sometimes the head unit will go blank. just tap the screen to wake it up (if your phone is within range during remote start)

You can also just toggle wifi on and off on your phone, when it comes back on it searches for signals, e.g., your car, and reconnects. I do the same thing when AA starts being funky while driving.

This Toyota app/connection thingy is funky.

Since I got the 4R i have to turn my wifi and bluetooth off on my cell phone to make calls in my office or it tries to connect to the 4R which is 30' away and turned off and just basically drops the call. On the other hand, a quarter of the time I have to restart my phone so my app connects for remote start, which I have to use because my FOB is a complete waste of my time 70% of the time.

I don't know what's going on any more except I know there's a good chance I'm gonna get stressed out when I try and remote start via app or fob.

Don't even get me started on trying to do it while I'm out and about and in a parking lot or something. Usually doesn't even register the fob from more than 20'-30' away.

I keep saying I'll take it in and have it checked but it's so random I'm not expecting great results and don't have the time to waste.

Rant over.... :)

Best piece of information I've learned here in a long time. This makes it WAY quicker / easier (read: less button pushes) to get my phone to connect.
Thanks!

Am confused by this because I am almost certain the connection is Bluetooth not Wi-Fi - but maybe I'm confused or maybe you just mean to toggle all the radios on your phone (which I think is an option.) Am I wrong about the Android Auto/CarPlay connection being Bluetooth?

Android Auto uses BT and wifi. Wifi does the heavier lifting parts that require more data.

Thanks for the reply and clear correction.... and yep, Android Auto turned on Wi-Fi on my phone just yesterday so clearly my assumption was wrong. Thanks!

No problem at all.

Been thinking about switching to the USB port on the head unit for a more stable connection. There is an interesting spot as I'm driving into Dripping Springs, outside Austin, that I get skipping while playing audio. No matter Spotify, YT Music, or Audible. Must be some strong interference to mess up the wifi signal.

You can turn on developer options for AA and tell it to only do wired. I tried this and the connection was constantly stable. Just sucks as that port isn't really in a great place. The two ports down near the wireless charger would have been better.
