They told me I was in 4wheel drive lol. Which I 100% not in. They decided that there was nothing wrong with it but also told me that there is a error code. So im going with They have no clue. Also these new hybrid 4runner are just giant computers and computers have glitches some times.

Thanks for the update, regardless of how clueless they probably were....
Same here, so fat it's been a solid machine! Almost 17K and a few long trips too.

I suspect after reading here since it has happened to both Hybrid and gas, it could be a transmission hiccup on a downshift that trigger the ecu to cut power to fail safe any further damage to trany... Curious if Tacoma treads show same issue.
Hopefully it won't happen again. Cheers!

Kinda glad (but not glad) to hear it's happening to others, I thought it could have something to do with the OTT tune I have.

I had the same thought since I have the OTT tune as well.

I wanted to bring this thread back to life for a quick update. Has the OP had the issue come back at all or have we confirmed what the actual issue was?

I took it to the dealer and they said it was in 4wheel drive which. I responded with if it was in 4wheel drive how did I drive 65 70. Also there was no indication on my end saying it was in 4wd as the picture shown.

Just had this happen to me. First message was one week ago but went away after restarting. Happened again this morning while running errands. Didn’t go away after restarting. I called dealer and they said to bring it in and they’d likely have to open a case with Toyota as this was the first they’ve seen this warning. Of course, on the drive to the dealership the warning was not present. Currently in a loaner awd Camry, which is a nice vehicle. But can’t wait to get the Trailhunter back.

I had this happen a couple times on hard acceleration after installing an aftermarket exhaust (with higher flow) on my TRD Pro. It went away on each restart and was gone in a few days and never came back. The error itself was triggered by an airflow reading out of spec (too high) and is done to protect the engine when detecting a lean air/fuel mix. My Carista scanner showed a record of this though no "check engine" light ever came on. My best guess is that the higher airflow from lower exhaust back pressure triggered it until the smart "systems" learned and adjusted air/fuel ratios. The exhaust company said it hadn't happened to other 4Runners so I think the Pro intake let in more air with the new exhaust. I could see the OTT tune causing a similar adjustment or a just a newer truck being pushed hard getting this error until the vehicle adjusts internal settings. If you do get the error, you should be able to check it via an OBD2 scanner to see what caused it (and dealers can do this too).

it's one or more sensors out of range that can trigger that message
[on hybrids a low 12v accessory battery is the main culprit]

need to connect a techstream and get all the specific codes (or advanced scanner that
knows the 2025/2026 toyota firmware)

all I could speculate on the reported 'intake' issue is the MAF
was out of range due to excessive humidity if the intake is wet

you can go 119 mph in 4wd if you wanted.

you just need to be less than 62mph to engage/disengage 4wd, but there is
no max speed limit or warning if you want to wring it out in 4wd**

**4wd at top speed definitely not recommended as a practice,
but if you have AWD, AWD is fine
