I put no faith in mileage expectations from the manufacturer. Those numbers are ideal scenarios. If you live in the big city with stop light after stop light, you are not gonna get good gas mileage with extended idling in traffic.

Lol, yea it aint the smoothest riding truck. My Ranger has the same size in 17 inch and are load C. They ride great. Crazy the difference. I read a post somewhere here that they(bfg) doesn’t make an 18 in 285/70 in C. Not stuck on BFG(I do prefer them) but these tires are brand new. Do I really want to spend 1500-2000k on new tires??? Hell no I don’t lol

270 mile road trip this weekend 10 miles of city driving the rest TX highways 85mph average was able to do 17.6 mpg on stock ORP

This is the best I’ve seen so far. Sitting right at 1k miles on 265s.

Okay, this is the first tank with my new 255/75/17 tires on the SR5, mostly moderate speed highway with some city and a bit of 4wd on the beach - 23.34mpg. I hand calculated based on the difference in tire sizes. I used 87 octane, mainly on normal mode, but using the the cruise control at speeds of 60-65 mph. I was at about 320 miles when I filled up, there was still about 1/4 tank left.

Sweet ride. Did you compare actual speed diff with GPS, or just factor in the theoretical size difference from 245/70R17 in your calculations?

It's been a while since I saw 255/75R17 mentioned, last time was on another midsize truck forum where it was a somewhat safer bet for clearance than 265/70R17. Looks great, might go that way instead of the usual 265

I went with the measured sizes and calculated the difference in distance traveled represented as a percentage. I have run 255/75 before on a 4th gen, so I was pretty familiar with what I was getting. When I considered my biggest gripe with the 5th gen I previously owned (mileage) I recalled that the 255/75 size has a slight advantage being only 10in wide, but still worthwhile upgrade over the 30.5" diameter tires that came stock. Obviously these rigs will run 33" tires stock, so it required some self control, lol. I've got about 600 miles on the tires now and I'm very satisfied!

Reason why I ask is cause the 6th gen speedometer seems to be off (fast) even for people with a 265/70R18 stock size. So I wonder if SR5s are just even more egregiously inaccurate from the factory and putting 255/75R17 on pretty much dials it in properly, thus possibly making your MPG calculations close to accurate without adjustments

we just took a 300 mile drive on stock tires and wheels and we got 24.9 all highway miles averaging 70-75 mph
Took another 300 mile road trip after adding a 2.5" lift and upgraded 33" tires and 0 offset Method wheels and our mpg dropped to 19 all hwy

This is similar to what I am seeing with Wyoming highways speeds in to 80-85mph range. I’m also constantly battling wind as well. Put 250 miles on yesterday and fought head winds both directions. I have yet to break 20mpg.
