If you on the edge about doing the tune or not. 100% do it. I just got mine tuned by Jamey from CentralGAtuning, and holy smoke, you can see in my dash cam, I grin from ear to ear the whole ride home.

The car is super responsive, especially at low rpm. Gets off the line super quick. Transmission shift with perfect timing. Don’t put it in Sport Mode, cause you might never take it out of it.

I almost went with the whole throttle command route, but for a couple more hundred bucks, OTT tune (by @JustDSM) seem to be a better route due to the fact that it won’t by pass all the safety net from your ECU. DO IT !!!

Apparently it also increase your MPG, I wouldn’t know cause I’ll be flooring it. It’s such a joy ride now

I don’t care much about warranty, but apparently it doesn’t. Since the tune still keeps all the safety protection program. Unlike throttle command or piggyback tune that plug into your OBD and by pass all that to give you what want. I believed it’s 650$ for the tune anywhere

Did you have any of the issues others (including me) have with clunky gear shifting and noticeable engine braking before the tune? Any difference afterwards?

Do they have the OTT tune available for the hybrid version yet?

Of course they are going to say that. If you`ve ever had waranty experience with Toyota, they will find any reason to not honor it. From aftermarket intake filters, aftermarket exhaust systems, Especially aftermarket lift kits, wheels & tires, your own wiring of accessories etc.
With a tune ( if they find out about it) you can bet they will take issue with it, during any attempt at engine waranty.

when I start doing all this mods to it, I don’t really care about warranty, I have money save up to deal with it. And if you do your research from older gen OTT tune, I don’t think I seen any case that the dealer void your warranty cause of it. If anything wait till your warranty expired then do it. I don’t have that patience.

There's a Federal Law known as the Moss-Magnesson Act which protects the owner of a vehicle and 3rd party manufacturers from things like this. I personally had a situation with Mini/BMW where they informed me that my warranty was being cancelled for an engine modification that the Mini Dealer performed. I rang an attorney friend who instructed me to call the service manager and ask if they had access to a computer and inform them to Google Moss-Magneson Act. My vehicle's engine was replaced and re-modified at no expense to me other than the original cost of modification. The burden is on the manufacturer to prove that a modification caused failure. If they cancel your warranty, you own a vehicle that releases the OE manufacturer from any liability incurred going forward, and as the owner of the vehicle you would have the responsibility of informing anyone purchasing the vehicle of this in writing in order to protect yourself of further liability, considering something were to occur with the vehicle and someone went after the OE Manufacturer. The language in your letter to the purchaser would also include, they as purchaser incur responsibility of liability considering the Manufacturer washed their hands of any and all future liability of said vehicle. In a nut shell, this means that your vehicle has instantly become a parts machine as long as you remove any identification from any part sold. Considering our legal process and people having accidents with injuries or fatalities, no one would want that ghost lurking under their bed for the remainder of their life. With all of the electronic control systems, airbags and braking systems to name a few, the law is there to protect you and any aftermarket vender from liability.

Apparently the is one Reddit post claiming a warranty claim was declined due to a tune, never documented or verified. OTT has been installed in 100's of thousands of vehicles so if this was a thing there would be more than one random Reddit post.

Yeah for the ppl that worry about warranty and dealer I don’t think modding car is for you. Not just tuning but anything having to do with changing the performance of the car. And fuck the dealer, I don’t even want them to do my free oil change.
