Tune / Tuning the 6th gen 4Runner engine - worthwhile? voids warranty? OTT experience/review?

Have the other tunes on the Toyotas been turbos ? I know Supra were but that was long before they started checking for these and it was uncommon then.

At least you know of the Audi issues - same with VW and BMW

I never had an issue with my MKV Supra. Put almost 50k miles on it with the tune. Only thing weird I had was classic BMW electrical issue in the mirror and warranty took care of it. I made sure every time I took it in to let the tech know I was tuned so they wouldn't mess with my ECU and never had an issue at the dealership

I owned a 2015 BMW 535d and never had any issues with oil leaks. Also owned several BMW R1100RT/R1200RT motorcycles and never had an issue.

I never had any oil leak or oil consumption issues with mine thankfully. Other first year owners did but I don't think it was the majority. I was actually very surprised I didn't have many issues being a new model and first year adopter. Guess that's why I didn't have an issue getting the 4Runner lol

I have a friend with a leased X6M50 who put a rod through the block. Now that’s an oil leak.
I had a 2008 335 with multiple oil leaks the worst at the oil filter housing gasket and and next was valve cover.

I’ve watched a lot of videos and read a lot about the OTT tunes. The thing with them is that these tunes are within the parameters of what the engine can handle. I plan to have mine tuned and install the cold air intake from SXTH Element. I’m also considering the intercooler from SXTH. If the turbo blows with all that, it will get an upgraded turbo too! LOL!

Had my OTT installed at 5k in Denver then went to stevensen west toyota the next day. Then drove 2k miles home to Georgia after adding 295 recon grapplers. Awesome!!!

I had to go teach a tac med class and I’m looking out in the grass and there’s a markIV Toyota turbo sitting out there that was seized couple years ago. This a pic of it that I found online.
I couldn’t find my pictures of it sitting in the grass that was taller than it. But I literally was on the property. I looked out there in the grass and I went that can’t be a supra. I was like maybe it’s a 350 Z or Some Celica out in the grass. I couldn’t believe it.

The OTT Tune has been tuning for a couple years the Tacoma with Turbo newest gen the same engine / turbo as the 6th gen 4Runner.

Looked up that sxth intercooler and it is definitely on my radar and will probably install one. I can say one thing that i always focused on in my previous vehicles is ensure that my engines stay cool. I guess that’s just from growing up in Las Vegas heat.

I installed the K&N series 77 intake turbo sounds amazing but had to take it off throwing error code getting it installed and tuned by OTT tomorrow can not wait!

I have the OTT tune on my 4runner and like it a lot. I am not hunting for MPGs as I am running E rated tires but the response is great. As far at it voiding your warranty, maybe, but the are zero documented warranty voids reported for the OTT tune in the 100s of thousands of tunes done. There is a single redit post claiming to have hd a warranty voided however no documentation to support this.

The odds are that you won’t have issues with the OTT tune but just like my buddy with the stock X6M50, if you happen to get the one vehicle with a bad piston rod and it lets loose while you are pulling into your work parking spot, it will end up an expensive bill for you because it was modified to provide more boost than the factory tune. More boost produces more stress on internal engine components and you will be paying out of pocket for repairs.

This installed on a Pro? I have been wanting one but it said it was only for the non-hybrid at the time I looked at it. What problems did you encounter and what was the fix?
