New Land Cruiser traded for a 4Runner or the other way?

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone traded their new Land Cruiser for a 4Runner or the 4Runner for a Land Cruiser?

Why?

Really just searching for some opinions on the Land Cruiser mostly. I’m not getting rid of my Everest ORP, but I know someone deciding between the two.

I think about it every single time I see one on the road. I just got back from Japan and I saw a ton of LC250s and they're just so damn good looking. The price was the deciding factor for me, but as soon as the Land Cruiser middle trim is under $65k, I am probably going to swap for a lightly used one.

One huge mark against the LC though is that 17 gallon gas tank. Horrible decision on Toyota's part. They are also getting 18mpg on avg (about the same as my non hybrid 6th gen) so that's a lot of stopping for gas on road trips and in general.

I still haven't made up my mind between the two.

Big cons for the LC off the top of my head: Same (hybrid) engine, but worse mileage and requires premium...And lighter duty hard parts/ axles. But damn it looks good, especially the interior.

I'll likely go 4Runner, just due to the price (and the fact that it has a sunglasses holder LOL).

They are extremely great looking. And I agree about the fuel tank.

Have you test driven the LC? TOTALLY different feel. Interior is nice and exterior obviously different but the experience of driving the two, to me, couldn't be more different. 4R seems more solid, less sway, more refined. I have the hybrid in the 4R and it really amazes me it's the same as the LC. I would describe the LC as more agricultural - and I don't know why that is. I'd think if you really loved FJ Cruisers you'd love the LC. Similar seating position/windshield orientation. I reckon I have about an hour test driving the LC under my belt on 3 different occasions. I REALLY wanted to like it. Thank goodness Toyota didn't screw up the 4R - I'm way happier in it.

This mirrors my experience and opinion. I test drove 3 LC250 Premium’s before the 4Runner was released, hoping to like it.

My experience as well. I test drove the LC250 and really wanted to like it, but it didn’t blow me away like I thought it would. I have yet to find a 4Runner to test drive, but once I do I have a feeling that I will be going 4Runner again.

I have only driven the 1958. I’m guessing the LC Premium is a lot better, but maybe not.

No way would I trade our 6G for an LC250 after having ours for right at a month and 4,000 miles.

On the LC250, the weight limitation for the cargo hold is an absolute joke and was a deal killer for me and my family. I am blown away that a manufacturer would make a vehicle that you can’t spill a drink in the back of, or even sit in the hatch area.

I also did not like the upright windshield and the wind-shear sounds from the upright A-pillars.

The hybrid option isn’t worth it for the minor power or mileage improvement difference that you may or may not even see, and the weight penalty it includes, as well as the long term challenges of more complexity for a DIY approach of vehicle repair and maintenance costs. I plan on keeping this 6G for past 200k miles.

We have been very pleased with our 6G 4Runner (TRD Sport premium) overall, and we average about 20mpg in mixed town and highway driving. We just recently got 23.5mpg on a longer trip running 75mph +.

One would think that, but it seems that what you see on the 1958 is just what you get if you opt for that vehicle. None of the LC trims have any acoustic glass on any part of the vehicle iirc. LC turned out to be purely an early adopter/nostalgia tax with some mind-bogglingly stupid "features" that pretty much all other TNGA-F vehicles dodged somehow. Fuel tank, glass, 8.2 diff on a hybrid, etc.

And then you have formerly respectable people like Driving Sports TV that have taken on a full time job of butthurt after seeing a few exposes of the truth on the matter

I still like the look. And a fair amount of the design around the body/frame areas is still shared with the 4R (good thing for both). It's just getting increasingly harder by the day to justify the LC price, knowing what lies under the surface.
