Hey all, I just took ownership of a 26 ORP a couple days ago, and I'm already planning the first upgrade - Gotta have my bass. I have a 07 4Runner Ltd that has a 12" box sub + RF amp under the passenger seat that has given me no problems for almost 20 years.
With the ORP, I'm having some trouble figuring out where to put the amp. I looked up slim line amps, possibly the Skar SK-M5001D with a matching ported 12" sub. Even with the amp dimensions at 9x5x1.75 height, I can't seem to find a good spot to put it. I cut some 2x6 lumber into 8" length and threw it under the passenger seat and the seat cables and components definitely hit it, and I'd still need about 3/8 more height over the piece of wood, so that doesn't seem feasible. I might be able to remove some of the carpet/fluff and attach it to the body, but I'd need to pull out the seats to verify that. Plus the air vent is there and I really don't want to lose that.
I'm thinking about mounting the amp to the back drivers wall, right behind the wheel well - like in the picture. It would be visible and it's a bit of a distance to run power to, but it's definitely easiest. Not sure about drilling into the side panel, but some gorilla 2-sided tape should hold it there for 100 years.
One other question I had is about the actual components I need. Forget the Sub/speaker for a moment. I've been doing some reading and I think I need the Taco Tunes Harness going to a LC2i Pro, then to the Amp. Does that sound about right or is there something better/more cost effective. The Taco Tunes harness and LC2i can likely mount under the drivers seat next/near the stock amp - at least according to this video:
I've priced it all out and I can likely do it for under $700.
What do you think about this setup?
