Something fun happening on the Tacoma side, and this kit will fit the 4Runner as well.

Big Turbo Tacoma – Development Update

Wanted to share an update on a project a lot of people have been asking about.

We’re currently working with FAFRacing on a big top-mount turbo kit for the 2025 non-hybrid Tacoma. This is a full ground-up setup, not a pieced-together upgrade, and it’s being developed with tuning in mind from day one.

The kit will include:
  • Custom intake
  • Aluminum charge piping
  • Custom intercooler
  • Custom catted downpipe
  • Top-mount big turbo configuration
On the tuning side, we’re deep into calibration development—boost control, airflow modeling, torque management, and drivability are all being addressed as part of the process. The goal is not just peak numbers, but a setup that’s repeatable, predictable, reliable and usable in the real world.

This is an active development project, and while there’s still work to be done, the kit is expected to be released in the coming months. As things progress, we’ll share more data and real results.

More to come.

I’ll definitely be keeping up with this! I’m excited and can’t wait to see how it all turns out.

@CAMTuning, from the looks of the pictures, if you’ve got an aftermarket intake, this kit won’t fit unless you do some custom fab work?

Any rough estimates on how much power is gained from this? Also if the internals are beefed up to handle it?

I have the updated intercooler from SXTH, and I’ve put a deposit down on the down pipe from OTT. An updated turbo probably isn’t far down the road either. People ask why. How much more could you possibly want or need? We don’t buy 4Runners for speed…. Blah, blah, blah…

Well, I’m excited to see what’s possible and how much we can get out of these 4 bangers! I’m happy to see there’s others who want to see what these are capable of as well!

Any idea if this will be available for the Hybrid models in the future? Does the hybrid system interfere too much and not allow for something like this? Very interested and will be keeping an eye on this.

its beyond what I'll do but still excited to see development pushed. Curious how must power these motors can take. Is it overly built like the 2JZ?

Yes, it’s overbuilt. A guy on a Facebook group was building his 4Runner. He indicated he has built (probably a Tacoma?) to over 500 hp with no issues whatsoever. I met a sales manager from a Tennessee dealership. He shared he had customers who’d built their Tacomas to 600-700 hp, but he didn’t know all the details of their builds beyond turbo swaps, down pipe, exhaust and tunes.

Wow, imagine having 600-700 HP in a 4Runner 😂

Gains are TBD- but should be considerable. 400+whp is going to be no issue.
Factory internals- we will push Nick's truck to see what's possible, then offer a more reserved calibration for the general public.

The 2JZ was a special kind of beast. That was a cast iron block with closed deck. This platform is an open deck, but forged crank and rods. Cylinder pressure will be a concern as we start to push these trucks further.

We will be test fitting on the Hybrid- no fitment issues expected but we want to be sure!

Aftermarket intake for this first setup, but Nick plans to make an option to adapt existing intakes such as the SXTH one to fit. That way people don't have to re-purchase an intake when there are already great options out there.
