Has anyone checked the factory fill on their transmission?

I will be doing mine tomorrow after I make my coffee run. It should be good and warm when I get back, will check the temperature; then check the fill level. Will try to report back with findings if I remember.

typical toyota transmission check requires a cold engine, the bring it up to a specific check temp, then pull the either the drain or fill cap and see if its level with the hole.

just have to find the correct procedures for you model (4R, taco, tree, tundra, etc)

I would like to hear people's thoughts on this newer model. Mine does not have a drain with a separate fill level tube drain.
My 5th gen had two ( drain and fill tube).

This is not a hard procedure it just requires a hot trans and being underneath it while running!

I'm not really worried but just like with my engine oil I like to make sure that it is at the right level as well as all my other fluids. Going sight unseen is not my normal trust Factor. Just my two cents

My 5th gen was under-filled whenever I changed my transmission fluid change w/filter. It was slipping a little bit; was about almost a quart short. I hope it's not like this on the 6th gens. I believe there's a video of a 4th gen Tacoma on YT somewhere who did his transmission fluid change.

Per this forum: https://www.4runner6g.com/forum/att...-replacement-procedure-instructions-pdf.8106/

The procedure is basically identical to the ZF 8spd you find in lots of other makes and models.

I haven't seen mention of changing the filter though.
yes, this. in the instructions look for 'the procedure'

start with cold engine, do the 'dance' system will let you know when
ATF temperature is optimal to go check the level.

part of it is this <snip>
The fluid temperature detection mode will be activated by moving the shift lever between N and D within 1.5 seconds for 6 seconds or more continuously. (h) Check that the D shift indicator comes on for 2 seconds and then turns off. HINT: When automatic transmission fluid temperature detection mode is activated, the D shift indicator on the combination meter comes on for 2 seconds. If the D shift indicator does not come on for 2 seconds, perform the steps from [#1] again.
