Look on YouTube for Motor trend where they compare the jeep Willeys to the 4runner. The guys keep smaking their heads on the Willeys and can go twice as fast in the 4runner. They had a much different view of the 4runner than Edmunds.
I laughted that they ranked the Jeep Grand Cherokee better than the 6G 4Runner. Guess they haven't heard about the Jeep Grand Cherokee quality problems.

What I don't like is the strict conclusions. It rides rough, the cargo deck is high, etc. You could review it and actually take measurements. You might mention the cargo deck is high and might be an issue for some but not doing it poor form and lazy. Saying that it rides rougher than others, but saying it's too rough and concluding it's an outright fault is further indicative of poor review discipline.

When a sentence is uttered ". . . like, I had to turn the steering wheel four times. . . " you know the mentality of the person allegedly performing this professional review. First, it's factually incorrect and easily proven as such. Second, "like" suggests a lack of formality, expertise, and tends to suggest hyperbole is forthcoming.

I'm sincerely doubtful of the hood glare issue. I could foresee it happening but mentioning it makes seem like such a pervasive issue on the 4Runner that it happens all of the time is crazy. Besides not ever once seeing that reported by actual owners, it is highly dependent on direction of travel, time of day, vehicle attitude, etc.

The multitude of seating complaints in total basically means the seats support no one and Toyota installed seats that cannot support anyone properly. Only people of precise height, posture, and body propertions are supported.

There's are certainly faults and valid complaints. There are definitely design considerations that may be an issue for some. Both should be mentioned in a proper review. Concluding that it is a real issue and will cause problems for every driver/owner is not proper review form. There's obvious bias and consideration and it presents as a hatchet job.

you know you can lower the seat right? Im 5'10 and dont even come close to the top but I can lower the seat a lot from where I drive.
Yes the seat is all the way down. In my trd offroad without moonroof I have about 1 1/2" from top of head to headliner. I my wife's lexus nx350 with moonroof when driving i touch the headliner as was the case when I test drove 4runners. In her car as a passenger i can move the seat back and am fine.

Whats even more ironic is if you search on the internet for comparable vehicles to a 4runner the Jeep Grand Cherokee doesnt even come up. Mostly its compared to the Bronco and the outback oddly.

What they seem to have totally missed is that the 4runner is a truck not a car. And they reviewed a Pro not a Platnium.

This is my first 4Runner but have had many other 4x4s over the years. I recently spent four days in the Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach area in Virginia. The amount of road work going on there is unbelievable. All of it translates into some of the longest stretches of rough roads I’ve ever been on. When I got home, I told my wife if I lived down there, I couldn’t keep the 4Runner, it’s that bad. Of course, it was road and highway speeds, which would make a huge difference then just driving at slower off road speeds. My back and wrists can take it a few days at a time, but not all the time. Beyond that, I really enjoy the ride.

Not sure who this review is for.... anyone who wants a 4Runner is just going to buy a 4Runner... there aren't too many people cross-shopping this with a Honda Passport or Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the sales numbers speak for themselves. 5' 2" cramped??? My girlfriend is 5' 4", and she likes driving it, even has to adjust the seat extra close to drive it. I'm 6 feet, and I think it's fine, about the same as my older 4Runner. I think what they are saying is they are used to a Honda Passport that is closer to the ground and has more interior space.....because it's basically a big sedan with no truck frame underneath. The hood glare thing was just funny lol. I also think the disgust of the turbo noises and exhaust is telling. The bottom line is these are non-enthusiast car people making a video for other non-enthusiast car people.

When my Honda Ridgeline was totaled, the Honda dealer really pushed me to buy the new Passport. I looked at it and it seemed like a sensible vehicle similar to the boring but sensible Ridgeline. And I might have purchased if I was maybe 10 or 15 years older. But I didnt want to look like a grandpa driving around in a boring Honda even though I am grandpa.

I'm 66 :sneaky:

Edmunds is a watered-down online publicationt. What they're doing is called "engagement farming".

A lion's share of their revenue comes from pay-to-click ads on their website and paid monetization on Youtube.

Like any company owned by private equity, their interest is income over accuracy, so they publish contentious reviews on popular vehicles with ridiculous and overstretched half-truths in order to get viewers to comment in response and share the video (just as we're all doing here.)

As a result, Edmunds gets tons of engagement, comments, views, and dollars.

There are other Youtube channels that do this. You're best off just ignoring it, it's all pretty useless these days.

You just have to love that 30 continuous miles of construction on I-64!

I’m not too crazy about the way my limited rides. I traded in a 2020 Honda Passport that rode nicer, but I started having issues at only 42k. I was stupid when I test drove not sure maybe an off road premium model. All the dealers around didn’t have one. I like the way the limited was equipped and I thought the limited was going to ride nicer. first off, I really do like a lot about the 4 runner. The tech works great and it looks great. Another issue I have is the height, I’m only 5’7ā€ and I have to use the running board and then need to lower myself into the seat. My back hurts a little getting in And I’m older at 62.

I do think the engine deserves more credit than it gets, it has plenty of pep and not all that bad on gas. I do think it’s made well and will last a long time. I do find myself getting use to the ride. I get a lot of compliments from people when they see it. This is my first 4 Runner.

I don’t read good reviews. I only look at the bad ones and they are usually nonsense.
