All, just figured out with these caps are for underneath your rear seats when they are tilted upward.

I first looked at them by clipping them out and seeing that they had really nothing underneath.
But today while the seat was tilted up I tied them into the opening latches that are exposed when you raise your seat.

Attached are a couple of photos that are pretty self-explanatory.

I guess these caps are used to cover up the latch hooks. I'm not sure exactly why maybe for dirt or if you decide to take your rear seats out you can cover up those holes.

From the manual, "
  • Be sure to install the seat hook covers on the seat hooks, or you may get burned when they become hot."

I actually had a salesman demonstrate how these work. Clever & simple idea.

Conversations like that I'd love to be a fly on the wall. Some foresight for sure to see that and think it will be an issue and come up with a simple solution.

Related thread. Random 6G4R Observation of the day Highlighting my ignorance of something that is obvious once you notice it: the covers are two different sizes.

Only partially covered, if you stack firewood or put beach crap full of sand, sawdust or sand will go down the hole for the finger.

Yeah I quickly found that out, last time at the Depot carrying some topsoil the bag ruptured and filled one of the holes. I did not even know about those caps as an alternative at that time. I most likely will remove that 60% side seat completely as I have the non-hybrid and could put a rubber mat and have a lot more storage and not have to fiddle around with that rear seat.
