Before I begin, I'd like to make it very clear that I was not compensated in any way for this review, neither did Cam request this writeup. I paid full price for the Cobb Accessport, Cam's tuning, and will not receive anything back from Cam if you mention my name or this thread as the reason you're utilizing his services.

Also, I ask that you refrain from making this a back and forth over why you should or shouldn't tune, use 93 octane fuel, launch your 4Runner to obtain the best 0-60 times, or exceed the legal speed limit testing your quarter mile time and speed. This is also not a "CAM/Accessport is better than OTT tune thread." I'll list why I chose what I chose, but if OTT works better for you, that's great! And lastly, yes, you will possibly void at least your powertrain warranty if you tune your engine/transmission. If you can't accept that, please back out of this thread and do not tune your 4Runner. So, with all that said, please read on...

I chose CAM/Accessport for several reasons: I didn't want to drive four hours round trip to have the OTT tune installed. I wanted the ability to be able to switch from 93 to 87 octane as needed. I wanted to be able to log and read what my car is doing. I wanted a truly tailored tune, specific to my 4Runner, with the ability to retune if I decided to add more parts down the road. Lastly, come the day I sell my 4Runner, I have a Cobb Accessport to sell and re-coup some money back.

I contacted Cam, asking some specific questions, what were my options, charges, timeframe, etc, and Cam was always super quick to reply. I purchased the Accessport with Cam's custom tuning, and three days later I started the process. Cam followed up after the initial purchase with an email and very precise instructions on the Accessport and how to properly do the required logging. I would imagine that anyone on this forum would be able to do this with no problem! With a base tune installed, I went to do two logs. These are very easy, FYI. Get your 4Runner up to operating temperature, put transmission in manual mode gear 4, slow down to 35MPH, hit the button to start logging, and mash the gas until 70MPH. Twice. Easy! You upload the logs to a file Cam sends you and he reviews, makes changes, asks how everything feels, if you want anything changed, etc. I've just sent him the logs to my 4th revision, and I'd be surprised if he makes many more changes based on our last conversation.

Prior to tuning:

I wanted a baseline. I own a Dragy. It's time to time some 0-60/quarter mile runs. What's the point of tuning if you're not faster, am I right? For Dragy timing purposes, I used the same guidelines: The same road, same direction, same full tank of 93 octane(this is all I've ever used), and no one or anything else in the 4Runner so the weight was as close to the same. I launched the same way: Sport mode, traction control off, mash brake, mash accelerator, release brake when RPM's get to 2500. I did four runs over the course of 30 minutes or so, driving around a bit to cool things down between each. This is a combination of 0-60 and quarter mile PRIOR to tuning.

Post tuning:

The immediate thing you'll notice, whether Cam or OTT tune, is how smooth this 4Runner is capable or driving. Accelerating, transmission shifting, slowing down and the automatic downshifting...it's truly a huge difference! It's a pleasure to drive now. Previously, I'd blame the rough or funky shifting on "it's a 4Runner, I'll put up with that," but it doesn't have to be like that. If anyone is in the central Ohio area and wants to drive my 4Runner, let me know, I'll make it happen just to show the night and day difference that this is.

Secondly, it finally pulls hard from a standstill. You may think it does now, but it doesn't. Not like this. You literally have to change your muscle memory of how far you push the accelerator at a standstill, it's that different.

Lastly, 50MPH full throttle punch, and it just goes! It doesn't hesitate, think for a few seconds, then goes...it goes NOW.

@CAMTuning , I'm 100% satisfied, and I appreciate what you do for the community. Thank you for tuning my 4Runner, making it so much smoother and more fun to drive!

Oh, and the performance difference Dragy results. They speak for themselves:

How is gas mileage compared to stock? I am looking at Cam and need to decide today for the special he's running. I also pull a trailer that's close to 4000lbs and any extra hp/torque is helpful. Just got back from a trip down in eastern KY/TN. It did much better than my 2021

Obviously my gas mileage has taken a hit, mainly from playing around with the extra power, so unfortunately I can't help you immediately with this question. I am taking a drive tomorrow, about 200 miles round trip, and will report back on how things go.

With that said, I'd still recommend the tune 100%, and I don't think you'll see a substantial hit in MPGs if driving in a normal, everyday fashion.

LC250 support is also available now, if you have one and hadn't seen it.

I have a 2026 Tundra that I will eventually get tuned.

I just finished a trailhunter for another guy and he took a long road trip this weekend. He recorded slightly better fuel economy than he normally gets. It's hard not to have fun with the skinny pedal when you get some new power though!
