Hi: Does anyone know if BFG KO3 275/70/18 on Trailhunter OEM wheels will rub without a lift? I know that with the 285 version of this tire, a minimum of a Westcott style lift is needed to prevent rubbing. With the 275s, can I stay bone stock without rubbing? Thanks in advance.

To be clear, you mean TH wheels on a TH trim, or TH wheels on another trim? I know they will fit okay on an actual Trailhunter trim because of the factory lift as these are the tire sizes I am considering switching to in either KO3 or AT4W.

TH wheels on an actual TH trim. Can I go to a 285 without a lift? I guess I forgot that the TH comes with a lift out of the box!

Thanks for clarifying!

Mixed opinions on that one. Most say you need to kill the crash plate to fit. Some also adjust the fender liner a bit and or remove the front mud flap. Others say it fits no issue, not sure if that holds true off road. Also opinions vary on fitting the 285 spare. For me the 10mm difference is not worth all of that, so 275 it is.

Perfect, I'll go with the 275 as well for the same reasons. Until I go with a Westcott lift, and I am not sure I ever will, I am not going to go to 285s.

Thank you for doing all of this due diligence for us. I appreciate it.

You can fit 285/70/18 without a lift but you’re gonna rub on dibs (fender liner) and at full lock. You’ll need to remove the front crash plates.
If you don’t have below +20 offset. You can clear with no lift but above will need to happen

I put the Westcott Preload Collar on and went with 17” rims to gain more sidewall with 285/75/17 on TH. Preload Collar hasn’t affected handling except less nose dive when stopping. Good news is the 285/75/17 will fit in the spare space with slight deflation. Not really concerned about that with the compressor.

I appreciate the feedback, but I don’t want to give up the trail Hunter Wheels. I really love the bronze color. I like the way you’re thinking though. Eventually I will get a Westcott lift I think but for day one I just want to swap the tires out to KO threes because I absolutely love those tires.

Completely understand. I tried real hard to just replace tires because I really liked the TH look. The 17” wheels offered a better selection of tires in different load ranges at this time. I talked to BFG about when they might offer the KO3 in a 18” load range C. They said the KO3 was on a phased roll out, but wouldn’t commit to a date. Still have my TH wheels and keep an eye on what’s new in 18”.

Will you post a pic, please?

What has changing to a lot heavier tire done to the gas mileage, speedometer calibration? Still running the stock tires (after one year) and I'm only getting 17 MPG as it is. Also are you having any any of the notorious BF Goodrich balancing issues. Considering the pirelli scorpion tires.

Sure. I was concerned about how much weight per/corner I was adding with the load range E. Only available load range C at the time was the Falken ATW4 which is a great tire but it would have added 24 # per/corner. I have to be realistic because I’m only getting off-road 2-3 times a month so the majority of the time it’s pavement. The Method/Toyo AT3 combo adds 14 # per/corner and I haven’t had any issues off-road with the stock SL AT3 - just a little worried when I’ve aired down over rock.

Your setup looks great, I have the underground color and going with similar color methods eventually. I have to balance out that 98% of my driving will be on highway with our 80 and 85 mph speed limits. But rock crawling three times a year in Colorado is definitely a concern for those sidewalls. I've watched so many professional tire reviews that my head is swimming. It's hard to balance out great highway handling, performance in rain and snow and rock crawling. I realize that three peak snowflake designation means nothing. My friends in Colorado lean towards Nokian. I've got a year to figure it out, going from Austin Texas to British Columbia and the Northwest Territory next summer, I've got some time.

I stuck with the AT3. It’s been a good tire and I haven’t had any issues off-road. The combo, Method/AT3 285/75/17 C, only added 14# per/corner…but, yes MPG dropped 1.0 -1.5 depending on how I drive. That was a big concern for me and why I was avoiding the E loads, at least as long as the majority of my driving is pavement. That said, if BFG comes out with more C loads I’d gladly switch. I’ve run the KO2 on previous trucks and off-road it was great!

I agree those at3s are great on road especially. My only concern was the OEM lesser tread tires that came on it were not all that great in Colorado a few months ago going uphill off-roading with very light snow on the road, they slipped a lot. I'm thinking the full treaded retail version of that tire might be just fine.
