Bought the kit, local shop is quoting $1.1k to install. They usually don't install parts they don't sell, but made an exception but did have to up the labor rate.
Cool!
Not a bad install price.
When the kit arrives can you measure shock dimensions and maybe post some photos?
To answer your previous question... I had Gemini tell me that front shocks are diameter of 6100s, and rear are 5100s. But your measurements and photos might help us know with a bit more certainty.

I was going to ask same thing can you measure the shocks to figure out if they are 5100 as they appear to be. Will be interesting to hear how they are compared to stock.

I am buying a 2026 ORP and thinking about having them pre-install the TRD suspension before delivery. I was quoted $950 for labor on the kit.

Mr. Wolfe
That’s a great price. My local dealers all quoted me over $3k in labor. Having another shop do it for $1k next Tuesday

We just got a few more crumbs from Ed Martin Toyota. It is not 2.5 lift in the rear more like 1.5". They have 2.75-3" increase in height but also put around 2.25 bigger tires so there is over an inch in lift from the larger tires. Still no install video but that is the 2nd one installed for sure by them so hopefully soon.

Also sounds like it's not major suspension upgrade

Very intriguing!

The stock ORP ride is very harsh to be honest, and this seems like a good factory approved fix / OEM+ mod.

Wish I lived near Ed Martin - they really seem to know what they are doing, and have provided great info to this forum. Including this latest nugget. (BTW I have scoured the Bilstein web site and there is no shock I can find with the "attached" reservoir like on my ORP. All their reservoir shocks connect to main body through a pipe/tube.)

But the lift provided is defined in the part description (which I thought was posted somewhere above but maybe another thread):
  • The new 4Runner TRD Lift Kit offers 2.5" lift in the front and a 1.5" lift in the back, providing 2.5” of additional ground clearance overall, Increased suspension stroke to support lift and aid in off-road performance & on-road stability, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 compliant
I really came here to share something that many might find interesting. I finally found official Toyota documentation for installation of the TRD Lift Kit. This is for Taco but likely 95% the same as 4Runner. And provides some insight and links to what are described as necessary for TSS calibration (cameras, microwave sensors, etc.)

I'm not sure it will be the same unless the who new axles part really is not true. I'm not sure they doubled down on that statement so until they post the install video or someone has their hands on the kit to show what is included we won't know for sure.

I am still interested in this but if it's not really an upgrade in shocks off road performance I'm not sure it's worth it.

There is some interesting notes about tire size, lift and tss.

I don't live near them either (about 6 hours or so), but wanted to buy my 4Runner from them because I trust them - and they have good deals. I do talk to Eric (he does their youtube stuff) so let me know if you want me to ask him any questions on the TRD setup.

isn't this a logical fallacy? toyota sold us the problem and also the cure? pretty weak if you ask me. i fully understand wanting to keep the factory warranty, so i'm still curious but thinking that this solves the problem they created for only a bit more $ than the aftermarket they're competing with just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. full disclosure, i hate my dealership and don't trust them at all.

It's a raw deal in that sense, yes.

Ultimately, you can go with an aftermarket lift and suspension and void your warranty with respect to most anything Toyota corporate deems is affected by your modding adventure.

In terms of dollars and cents, Toyota has to build 4Runners for $20,000 out the door of Tahara and charge enough to the distributors/dealers to turn a profit on each one. Cost cutting, penny shaving, and economizing aren't limited to other brands.

Is it possible that they put in some basic/harsh riding suspension bits on the assumption that you'd change them down the line?

Possibly.

After all, shocks and springs are consumables.

Do we have any actual reviews of people with this installed? I know people say they think it will be better but….. also I find that ride is subjective. Does my ORP ride like a fancy suv meant for the streets nope. Does it ride like I expected, maybe not quite but I do remember the Tacoma I had a rental was similar feeling but that was a year or more before I got the 4runner. It doesn't feel a whole lot worse that a lot of more off-road oriented vehicles I have driven/ridden in either.

This is not exactly a solution to a problem either. I don't see it as a solution as how everyone want a taller vehicle? That added height could be a problem for getting into they garage or parking lot. It could make it even less appealing to someone who already struggles to get in out of a fairly tall vehicle. This IMO is the answer to all the aftermarket lift kits. We all know that not all kits are the same and many want to do the bare minimum or the cheapest option. This gives everyone a complete kit that is actually factory approved and has all the necessary parts to insure it works without issues. Sure I can go to some shop and buy shocks and springs and they might say well you can add UCA and link and....but it will work without it. They may be true but it also my be putting unnecessary stress on components and that could effect possible warranty options.
