Yeah I noticed that as well as soon as the dealer walked out with a couple of filters. They were having one of their 30% off maintenance parts sales, I quickly told the guy are you selling these cheap knockoff parts. Did you know that there's a lot of counterfeit oil filters and air filters going on right now.
He looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language and I walked out to my 4Runner and brought in the factory filter and I said; does this look anything like the quality that Toyota has given me from the manufacturer.
He said anything that we sell with starting letters of YZ (Toyota approved) is from a third party vendor.
I've confirmed this with three dealerships here on the West coast. So you're not really getting a pure manufacturer replacement part unless you do some deep diving and cross-checking numbers. Anyway just my two cents.
