Any one hardwire their dash cam ? I plan on using a battery pack and I just want to see if this issue is also true with the 4runner. I got this from the tacoma forums. Looks like there isnt any room or clearance for a fuse tap.

@Fishing I haven't checked on the 4R yet but it's in the same spot according to the owner's manual, plus the chassis is known to have shared development:

You'd probably have better luck wiring your ext battery to the 5-pin connector in the roof cavity, somehow.

Do you know if the 5-pin has constant power when the vehicle is off?

There is room to add a fuse tap. The panel does go back on. Just the fuse box cover can not go on due to using the fuse tap. I currently have the blackvue battery pack under the passenger seat.

Yeah you have both constant and ignition-switched up there. What battery are you gonna install?
I tried measuring voltage on a male 5pin that I plugged into the connector above the dome light. I have 12VDC on one wire when the is on, but I don’t have a constant wire that turns on when the car is off. Could it be that certain trims don’t have the constant power wire connected? I have the SR5 trim with no dashcam.

I got mine professionally installed for this reasons. I didn’t want my husband to have to figure out this or that.

Thanks for the update about your reliance on other people. Maybe the pro can chime in with something related to the discussion?

Im sorry I dont remember or have pics to look back on. But you can use any bolt which goes to the chassis as long as its not bolting down something plastic as plastic will not conduct.
