This video features Dongar's parking mode adapter & 5-pin pigtail which isn't due for release until around late July.

I just don't understand why traditional manufactures are not allowing the plethora of on-board cameras to be recorded and used as dashcams. At least with these new models there is a built in option for power to an aftermarket one. The OEM one at $500 is just insane.

Your answer to why is in your question.

Is there a built-in option to power an aftermarket dash cam? Cause what's depicted in the video isn't built-in to me, but a cool aftermarket mod nonetheless.

Like Shine's example using the Subaru, here is something that several users have identified as a solution: power cable for FitBox camera to toyota connector
IMHO every aftermarket camera targeting use on 6G4R should come with a similar connector option - SO much easier than routing a wire to a fuse box and having a piggyback fuse prevent closing the fuse box cover. The connector is right there where you need it. And if you get a Toyota OEM dash cam, it comes with the connector pre-wired.

I have the Fitcamax dash cam which if you aren't overly concerned about image quality is a great setup. The app works well and is easy to use.
They make an adaptor harness to plug into the factory dash cam jack for continuous power that enables parking mode. It only draws power if the camera is activated. Also, the splitter harness that comes with the dash cam is bulky and hard to stuff in the overhead console. The accessory harness eliminates it. You can probably do the same with a Mangoal dash cam which can be purchased with Starvis 2 for best image quality.
