Absolute BS about the 6'4" driver...how do I know? 'Cause I am a 6'4" driver, not once have I "planted my head on the headliner"....give me a break. I think the 6'4" driver got in after the 5'5" driver and neglected to adjust the seat! I am super comfortable and have plenty of room in my 6G Trailhunter...

Those guys are a joke. I watched a few videos of them essentially hating on the 6th gen then realized they dont know what they are talking about when they were doing a test climbing a large steep incline hill thinking 4 wheel high was way to tackle it.

Im also 6'4" and never had my head hitting the roof. I could adjust the seat way further back from what I have it now.

um .. almost all media today is designed to get a reaction, generally negative is more profitable, so that's what we get. The 4Runner is not perfect, no vehicle is, so comparing it to a Honda Pilot is not the right benchmark. The Pilot is a very nice on road, family hauler, with a little character. The 4Runner is a SUV in the original definition of Sport Utility and is very good against that set of expectations. Now 3 months into ownership, I can list several things I would like improved, but I wouldn't trade it for a Pilot or a Wrangler or whatever else they mentioned. But they succeeded in getting a reaction and I expect that is what they had as a goal. There are much better sites for a review. Consumer Reports is a little more balanced, but their bias is always toward mass market thrift.

I will complain about toyota in general about headroom. I downgraded my trim because I could not find a offroad premium without a moonroof. My head touches the headliner with the moonroof. I am long waisted 6ft 2. I do believe the headroom is exactly the same in my wife's lexus 2024 nx350 and sons 2007 rav4
you know you can lower the seat right? Im 5'10 and dont even come close to the top but I can lower the seat a lot from where I drive.

Lol. He said “the Subaru and Honda Outback will give the same off road abilities” Yeah… OK 👍

The only correct statements made were:

Bad ride quality. The ride quality sucks, it’s what it is. (I’ve got a 26 TRD ORP)

Smaller cargo area. Buddy of mine is about 6’2” and he has to slide the passenger seat pretty far back to get leg room. And backseat leg room is smaller. I feel in mi 5th Gen it was so bad.

Speaking as an "extra wide", I have no problems. Unless you are referring to Sumo size

Yeah, but their claim in the video is:

"A 6' 4" driver said that no matter what he did, his head was firmly planted against the headliner, so taller drivers need not apply"

I'm not buying it. Maybe we should have gotten a Honda Passport instead. Edmunds says it's the best and better than the 4Runner:

"did not ride like we expected and it looks like a tank and it rides so poorly that you feel like you're being punished."

Look on YouTube for Motor trend where they compare the jeep Willeys to the 4runner. The guys keep smaking their heads on the Willeys and can go twice as fast in the 4runner. They had a much different view of the 4runner than Edmunds.

I think there's a big difference between minimum ground clearance on a unibidy vs body on frame...for example if you drop left side wheels off path 4-Runner has about twice the clearance right next to the wheels. There are a few times when I'd have been hard stuck in a Passport. Approaching stuff 4Runner has 16 inches until you might hit paint...7 more than when you rip little plastic air dams off your Passport. Journalists that conclude equal offroad ability from Passport are Outback are likely driving trails...try comparing just driving into the woods with no trail.

I used to be responsible for the vehicle evaluation process at an OEM. I tried a Passport and didn't even finish the test drive because I absolutely hated the steering and did not like the handling. Powertrain is totally gutless with 262 ft-lb torque at 5000 rpm in a heavy vehicle; every other review I've seen makes this clear. Plenty of concerns with the transmission and also about reliability
of the new V6 with variable displacement tech that I would not want on any vehicle.

But Passport is big and comfy and looks nice.

Edmonds has a habit of taking a purpose-built vehicle and not like it for the smallest of reasons. I saw that video and posted several replies to it, in other words they don't know what they're talking about. I've had my Trail Hunter coming up on 2 years now and the last thing I ever thought about was that it rides rough. Good grief it's a body on frame four-wheel drive, and they're comparing it to a Honda passport? They don't have any credibility.
This is exactly the problem. The Edmunds reviewers expect every vehicle to operate like a sedan. If you're comparing on that basis, sure the Passport might be "better", but that's not the point of a 4Runner.

I saw this video last night and throughout the entire thing, I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

Their comments re generally valid. the problem is that they rarely consider the audience for a vehicle when they review it. Nobody at Edmunds cares that it has a solid rear axle, and that creates substantial ride and handling compromises over the passport and grand cherokee. I am coming from a Grand Cherokee, and as an everyday driver, the cherokee IS more comfortable and it definitely gets better mileage.

the 4runner is more reliable, tows better, has better safety features, better seats (totally subjective), and will handle off road and fire roads with greater ease. It's the vehicle for me. it's not for an Edmunds editor.

the wrangler and Bronco have the same problem when they are reviewed. Honestly, the grand cherokee has the same problem too, because it makes some off road compromises that a highlander or pilot doesn't make.

Do we all have our complaints about the 4R? Absolutely, especially at the entry price.

The thing is, most of us didnt buy it for a smooth ride and handling on the interstate. Hell, Ive posted multiple times my 2019 F150 STX rides better. I didnt but my 4R for that, I knew what it was supposed to be before I bought it.

My main concern, and Ive seen the same sentiment here plenty, is if the 6G keep the track record for longevity and reliability.

They also don't think highly of the Toyota Tacoma of the same generation by the way.

4Runner remains the default choice since its only real competition is the Ford Bronco and one or two Jeep models.

Exactly. I'd own a 6th Gen if not for this question. I'm sure I want the new powertrain.
