Germany Disables Toyota Features Remotely

I believe you have to call Toyota via the SOS button and they will disable the connection. If you signed up to the my connect app, you have to disable that as well.

I read another post literally yesterday about this issue. I'd do a quick search and you'll find it. There is a device you can buy to fix this issue apparently.

Cant believe they can just go in and change your features at the flick of a switch without your consent. The fact Toyota even complied with the German Government request is a massive concern to me.

What happens next? If your carbon footprint print for the month is to high they wont let your car drive more then 5 miles? Or they limit your power and RPM levels till your carbon credit balance is good? Or maybe they start limiting how many miles your allowed to drive a week? This is the first small step that can quickly explode into complete forced compliance in a system that people dont want.

Toyota is on the fine line right now, sure hope this doesn't go beyond Germany.

I could be speaking out of line here but i think the primary concern with this “tracking” is not so much just the data they collect (big deal, were not doing anything illegal). But is more about where does the fine line stop?

Toyota has just shown us that they can disable a feature on your vehicle at the flick of a switch. So whats the next step? What if some over oppressive government gets into power some where and starts dictating full electric vehicle use or pushing for carbon credit use on vehicle travel. What if suddenly you wake up one day and get in your truck and you start it but then get a warning on the dash telling you that you have reached your max allotted carbon credit use for the week and so your truck is only limited to drive no more then 2 miles from your registered home?

Toyota just showed how easy it is for them to shut off a feature on your truck, so how easy can they now just put your truck in limp mode, or not even start at all, till you comply with some loony government stance.

I dont mean to come up as some conspiracy nut, but i dont think people realize how close we are to loosing a lot of our rights at the flick of a switch.

At minimum they could have challenged things, made an attempt. Notified the users prior?

This isn’t so much about toyota though or the loss of features (at least not to me). This to me is more about how easy you or I as a citizen can be forced into compliance on something, and how a government can simply force a manufacturer to flick a switch and put us into the governments little bubble.

Thank you, yes this is the kit. I was posting from my phone at the time.

You can reach all the connectors pretty easy without taking too much apart. Google up the youtube video about putting a usbc jack in the center console, that is hands down the best directions for taking the center console apart around the shift lever. Includes the secret to getting the shif knob off. Then DCM plugs are all right behind the vertical front wall where the phones rest. There is a tacomaworld post about it and it's almost identical.

Apparently the FOB will still function. Just the ability to start it with your cell phone through the remote app is disabled.

Well that is good! Range with fob is pretty good even through walls and doors.

This is the worst of both worlds. You lose the use of the features, yet the connection still exists, is still active, Toyota still collects data, Toyota still controls the vehicle any time they want to.

I am not a drug kingpin, (And if I was I wouldn't state it here lol) but I know Car Makers sell your driving info to insurance companies, and store them, I won't install it right away, I'll wait for the (1 or 2) year free subscription to end, then I will lose the ability to remote start/locate anyway, so it's a losing situation, I get nothing out of it, and Toyota still gets to sell my data. Then I'll install it.

That's my plan.

Well, I am a drug kingpin, a smart one at that and am not worried about data privacy.

I will keep my connected services and remote start thank you.
