Toyota has released the TSB for diagnosis & fix of the 2024 Tacoma transmission failures issue.

Glad to see Toyota has officially acknowledged the issue and has a fix for it in place ahead of the 4Runner release so as to make sure the 2025 4Runner doesn't have the same issue. Perhaps this was the cause of the 4Runner's release date being delayed.

Or more likely because the Taco is produced in Mexico and not in Japan.

I would’ve assumed the same transmission in both, as well as the Land Cruiser. Surprised though how little info I’m pulling up on google to confirm that or show where they’re made. They’re all 8sp, the Tacoma has a AL80 if I read right. But not a lot of info there.

Well Toyota has me worried I’m starting to look at the new upcoming 2026 Honda Passeport V6 , 10 speed. For my level 3 Off Roading that will be enough.I will definitely road test both before I decide.

Guess you don't want a truck after all.

The Tacoma is made at Toyota Mexico facilities and the transmission is produced in Texas. The 4Runner/LC is made at Toyota Tahara plant in japan and the transmissions are made in Japan. Both japanese plants are regarded as the gold standard for quality/MFG so I would not worry about any toyotas coming out of japan.

Well that gold standard didn't transfer over to the Lexus GX with all the engine recalls.

Toyota handled that recall really well for what it was. id still say its the best automotive facility in the world considering all of their projects/history in comparison

What did they do "really well" ? THERE IS NO REMEDY AS OF NOW for the GX. I own one with the engine recall.

transparent and "relatively" quick addressing of the issue. 1-2 years isnt fantastic for customers to hopefully get replacement engines but much better than hyundai for example. again not an ideal situation and sorry to hear you spent so much on a car that didnt live up to what you thought you were going to get, but wouldve been much worse of a response it it was from a different manufacturer

I'll chime in on this one, I retired in 2024 and bought myself a 2024 Mercedes GLC brand new.

Within 200 miles I started getting electrical problems that spawned across all Electronics. Was in the shop five times before it had 800 miles on it. So the fifth time in the dealership I called corporate Mercedes and requested a buyback completely penny for Penny and they acknowledged with a yes, we will buy it back. So lemons do happen.

Fast forward decided to go back to the Toyota brand because I owned a third gen 4Runner and a 5th gen and never had a bit of issues with any of them although they both lacked all the new technical features.

Currently on a 1500 Mile Road Trip reading this and have been watching my transmission and how it exhibits the shift patterns and how it memorizes my driving habits.. I was coming through the LA metro area yesterday and looked at my MPG and was thrown back by what I saw picture included.
I'm sure this mileage was because I was going at Undertaker speeds of 30 to 60 miles per hour. And doing a lot of Pulse Glide coasting.

I digress this is not about fuel MPG, but I am just putting in a positive note that these six gen's are good runners!
