I just read a story regarding a recall by Toyota regarding a bad drivetrain on several models causing vibration. It referenced the Tundra. This may also be the reason for the vibration on the 4Runner. It is worth checking out if you are having an vibration issues. Just a thought.

I replaced the tires, and then Goodyear replaced those tires on them because I still have vibration. After 3 sets of tires now, I am confident it is not the tires. I wish it was.

Have you opened a case with Toyota yet? Please report this. I'm getting stonewalled with the same thing. It needs to be looked into deeper.

As far as the 2nd reference to the bad driveshafts in the Tacos, I was told by toyota, (and also knowing how QC in manufacturing works), they would know if they were bad and would have included them in the recall is it was part of the same batch. It may be a separate part, batch, or supplier... yet still out of spec. Which may move them for the need for a different recall.

The only way for toyota to get a recall done is report it to NHTSA.

I've already submitted a complaint to the nhtsa. I provided a link in one of my other posts to make it easier for owners to submit their issues...

I figured I would at least give the dealer an opportunity to fix it before complaining. I purchased the tires elsewhere, so those were not done by the dealer but they know that they have now been replaced twice. If the shop foreman does not fix it on the 16th, then I will file the complaints. I will probably also go to a drivetrain specialty shop and pay out of pocket to fix it if I have to. I can't take highway trips the way it is now, but I need to travel sometimes for work. I will have to claim compensation from Toyota if the case over goes anywhere. Between Toyota putting my original ordered 4runner on QC hold for 4 months and never giving an ETA, and now this on a different new 4runner I found, this has been a horrible experience from Toyota and I have had many throughout my life.

My wife took out a different 4R in another state when she was there for work and time to kill. Different tires than what I have had, or currently have, on mine.

Vibrated.

It's not tires.

They just hit the easy button with you. You've replaced the tires. They can now very easily say in your case, it's the tires. It's not OEM. This is why I'm not doing ANYTHING to my car until this is settled.

More research: Taco and 4R have different rear suspensions (beam in Taco vs multilink in 4R). Driveshafts are different lengths (different wheelbases). It' something in the back and can be felt in the seats... driveshaft, joints, axles, differential.

And joy of joys hit me a couple days ago. Wife said she doesn't want to be in it now, because the vibration makes her sick.

People experiencing this issue should report it to the nhtsa website if you want to get any attention on this issue. Toyota won't do anything unless there are public facing complaints.

I have a mechanic in my family, but he lives too far away to look in person. However, after describing what's happening, he suspects the driveshaft U-joint, which is ironically the exact part the vibrating tacos are being recalled for. He also said to have the dealer check the balance of the drive shaft itself. Apparently the factory welds little weights on it if needed for balance, or at least they are supposed to?

ISSUE RESOLVED - for me anyhow.
My balancing woes have ended. I just came back from Discount Tire where I had 4 new Toyo Open Country AT3s (SL load) installed. I got it up to 75 mph with no vibration. I can rest easy over this issue now and get on with my mods...

Shouldn't have had to do that. A new car should not vibrate like it did because tires/balance. And anyone/dealer that says a vibration like mine was normal can suck it. Yes, I bought the car, based on them saying it was tires and can be fixed (and they tried multiple times and failed post sale, this thread archives the issues). If I had the time, I would have kept up the fight. But, I don't. So, I no longer have the issue either. Someone else will. Traded it in on not a Toyota - never another. Lost a customer after this complete ****-show with dealer, region lead and TCC. That other 4Rs have the same vibration that I test drove the past few weeks, all on different tires? Good luck with this one toyota.

I suspect prop shaft issues or lift. maybe phasing.

does it change in 4wd vs 2wd or stay the same ?
lift changes prop shaft angles and can put things out of spec easily

Can you expand on what lift or phasing is? Mine feels like the engine is missing or there is a loose motor mount, but that is not the issue. I put it in manual shift and changed rpm, I also tried 4wd, and tried neutral at high speed. Same vibration. This is why I also suspect the driveshaft and/or U-joint.
