I called our salesman yesterday and told him that if we can't block the snorkel without voiding the warranty we didn't want the car. He included the cost of blocking the snorkel on the price agreement today. The service department is going to do the mod. It is going to cost $1171.00. I don't know how much of that is parts and how much is labor. It doesn't show that on the agreement. It is just included with all the other figures, such as tax, dealer fees, trade in value, etc. They told us that it doesn't void the warranty because "it doesn't change anything mechanical". I guess it would be the same as changing the air filter to something like an K&N. I guess we will find out. Hopefully it is coming in next week.

How does the engine get the air it needs if you block the snorkel? Are you opening up a new air intake under the hood?

I am not sure about the specifics. I will take pics when we take delivery and post any other information. I assume that we will get an invoice for parts.

From another post, you can block the snorkel, and open the airbox in the engine bay. The user did it himself, and it seemed pretty straight forward. 1100$ Seems like you're getting gouged. But I haven't tried it or even looked at it, I'm just repeating what I already saw.

I am not really worried about the cost so much as avoiding any warranty problems in the future. They won't be able to deny any warranty claim based on blocking the snorkel as they are the ones doing the modification.

I’m the opposite. I’m paying for the cold air intake just to get this snorkel sound. LoL!

Then why are you getting the Trailhunter and not the TRD Pro. I bought my Trailhunter specifically because of the snorkel.

Good question. This is a birthday present for my wife. We looked at the allocations for Pros in Colorado and called on the ones that she liked the color on. The dealers that had the color she wanted would not reserve the allocation for that particular vehicle. They all said that they had a waiting list for that particular vehicle. They would put us on the list and call us in the order of the list. There were things that she wanted that are offered on the Trailhunter that aren't offered on the Pro.

Makes sense, the trailhunter has the underbody protection not so much the TRD Pro. I also think those old man emu shocks are great on the trailhunter. I've had mine for 4 months now, love it and I do not mind the snorkel sound which you barely hear anyway.

I sometimes have more gear than sense myself, but that's a lot amount of money to remove a hallmark feature from your trim. $1170 would buy a lot of beers and/or a round-trip ticket to Paris in Comfort+.

Me, I just shoved a car wash sponge in there. One can still hear it, but it's not loud. It no longer bothers the passenger with the window open at all and I doubt people on the roadside can even hear it. I also used carista to turn off the "Engine Sound Enhancement" and my TH is remarkably quiet now.

Yes I know a snorkle is not completely watertight it can help to get the intake higher in the event of an unexpected water crossing (plus it looks cool). I am adding a rear differential breather because its low and vulnerable to water ingress. The front differential and transmission breathers already have raised breather lines installed at the factory. I am not in the habit of boating in my TH but I do have to ford the occasional steam or dreen at high tide on the beach.

Can you let us know what parts they end up using? I'd be curious.

I don't drink beer. At my age it gives me a headache. I am not going to miss 1100 bucks. The modification didn't work so we are just going to go with it as is. The noise isn't as loud as the wife thought it would be.

The dealership installed the parts they thought would work. During a test drive the car threw an error code so they had to remove the modification. They said they would look for an alternative but I think they are blowing smoke up my skirt. Doesn't matter at this point. Here is a list of the part numbers that didn't work:

17700-25260 Cleaner assy, air
96111-10830 Clamp, Hose
17881-25090 Hose, Air Cleaner
96111-10800 Clamp, Hose
