should be able to resolve this for those that get the digital key on your phone, but i dont imagine too many are willing to pay the extra cost for just this feature.

and if i remember correctly, not all trims allow this feature.
Sorry can you explain further? I have the digital key on the Toyota app but don’t see how this will prevent clones?

This is exactly why i installed an aftermarket immobilizer. Ain't no-one getting my 4runner unless they put it on a flatbed.

Sorry about ur loss
Could you reply with the details on what you bought and how you installed or at least point me in the right direction? Thanks!

As mentioned above, Ghost II by Autowatch. It has to be installed by a professional installer.

I'm sorry to hear (and see) that man. Hope they catch them, but even if they don't I'm sure the local PD will let them go. Nothing I despise more than theives of any sort.

Cameras are worthless...immobilizers definitely deter until they come up with workarounds there. The reality is, until local governments in many cities around the world start truly enforcing already existing laws, theft will keep happening. Put them in prison for 20 years for a simple theft to make a few examples out of them and watch how quickly it stops. Then folks won't have to constantly spend money to try to protect their stuff. I truly hate these f*ckin people.

So sorry about this. I would recommend a Faraday box to store your keys when you aren't using them. It blocks the signals in and out of the box. It prevents those scumbags from relaying your signal to their device.

once you get a digital key you can put the fob into standby mode (wont send out a signal to clone)

kinda hard to clone a cellphone since the digital key is not broadcasting all the time. toyota digital key via a cellphone only broadcasts if you go into the app, otherwise its silent

Sad news, I picked up my 4Runner (platinum) last Thursday and this morning at 3:05am our 4Runner was stolen using key fob cloning.

Updated with video:

damn that is insane! 1, how are they getting their hands on that tech, 2, why is this even a thing 3, what are the solutions to stopping this?

Kitchener Ontario, 1 hour from Toronto, yes we bought an anti theft system from the dealer, police said more likely an inside job???

thank you everyone for your kind words
Kitchener?? Really? My girlfriend lives in Cambridge and I'm there quite often with my 4Runner. Never thought I'd have to worry about my truck getting stolen while there though.

Thieves suck. Sorry they got yours 😔

Immediate solution to this is to turn off your key when you get home or park it for long periods.

If the key is off, there is no signal to pick up.
The next morning when you walk up to the car you will notice the doors will not unlock when you grab it. Press any button to turn it back on.

To turn off the key, lock the car. Then press and HOLD the lock button then press unlock 2 times.
Make sure the lock button is pressed while doing that. You will then see 4 red flashes on your key.
