I got to drive a 24’ MY 4Runner TRD Pro and honestly I understand why people miss the V6.

So I’ve never driven a 4Runner before and finally I got to drive a TRD Pro model. I actually understand why so many are worried about the new 4 Cylinder.

Although the V6 is old and so is that 5 Speed auto, the engine is just bulletproof. Everything about this model feels analogue which is something a lot of modern cars have lost over the years. In my video I go deeper into why I feel that and even throw shade and some other brands.

Did you drive a v8 four runner?

I was able to test drive a new Land Cruiser 1958. I'm 6' tall; no headroom issue. However, I tend to lean the seat back farther than normal (maybe).

this post really needs to be put into a grave. i mean the whole post is irrevelent for when it was posted in may-2024. the video is about a MY24 TRD Pro and the OP is saying the 4 cylinder is worse? um how did he test a MY25 4R with 4 cylinder turbo back in may-2024? i don't see any reference he was part of the early media influencers that were able to test drive them back in june-2024?

and who re-animated this zombied thread :)

I actually take that back. The 4 cylinder with the hybrid is great. I actually test drove a Tacoma TRD Pro and it changed my mind. Hope that helps a bit.

100% agree. This new gen 4R has blown my mind. Check this video I just did of the most badass Everest I've seen yet:

I know the feeling I miss 1985 S/W AMC Eagle Ltd 4x4 best family car for 15 years 250 k+
Me too. My first car was an '81 Eagle and after that an '84. The only thing that could stop an Eagle was a gas station!!!

Bingo. This low-end torque is what I loved about the '23 hybrid Sequoia I got to drive and expect to also find when the hybrid 4Runner & LC250 hit my local dealership.
You don't have to get the Hybrid to feel that low end torque. The standard 2.4 turbo engine is quick at 1700 RPMs too. It is just a different beast from the old v6 with 5 speed tranny. I like how our long it will hold those lower gears even though it has 8 to play with. It is tuned very well.
